Are blackberry phones worth it? Are they a new trend in tech world?

I regret buying my blackberry. Sure its cool to send text messages or emails, surf the net or other things but after awhile it gets boring. Im considering selling the phone and getting a cheaper phone . I use verizon but might switch over to another mobile carrier. Im not a heavy talker on the phone and usually the people I do talk with I can send emails .

But I see alot of people carrying around blackberries. No offense but I dont see the hype in those. Are those some sort of status saying " hey Im rich and Im a techie" or something Im missing?

why would you assume its a status thing? for those that have a need for it they would use it as such, for those that text a lot perhaps they want a qwerty keypad that helps them with their text messaging and email. I use a windows smart phone [frankly i hate Blackberry] because my clients and my office can send me emails that i would need to see, i'm also an ebay addict so this helps with bidding and selling, and my girlfriend loves texting so we do that frequently too. But it sure as heck is NOT as status thing. Perhaps you need to sell yours as you indicated and concern yourself with other things besides what other people are doing or using...

I think you mis understood me. I meant status as being for example, a person who buys a corvette or a fancy car to show off or trying to tell others he or she is rich.

Same thing with kids buying designer clothes since it makes them feel rich or have money.

Most people at my office bought blackberry phones & yes I did ask some of them nicely and they bought them because it makes them look like they are hi tech sort of people even when some of them dont know simple things as what a router or server is.

I dont text much only to my sister when shes in class when I cannot call her. And I dont have any sort of addict so another reason why Im selling off my phone because it was a want and not a need .

I think in a way you answered your own question then. There will always be people out there that flaunt what they have - though most do it with dept and credit - to keep up with the jones'. I suppose in subtle ways i do. i almost have to believe everyone does in some fashion. Regardless of any 'reasons' i still use all my toys for the purpose they were really intended for... whether it be water crafts, electronics, 4 or 2 wheel goodness of any kind, or even the freakin blender... why buy it if you're not going to use it? Oh and i do know all too many people that own things that never use it but instead park it in the drive way in front of the empty garage for all to see... so i see your point also.

BTW - my receptionist... i asked her about her pink blackberry... her answer "my mom bought it for me..." so there yah go! Many reasons, draw your own conclusions and move on :p

People who work a lot with emails and contact important people at work tend to use these phones more.

I know I wouldn't mind a Bold 9000 :D, but my normal sony ericsson candybar is more than enough now

I typically dislike Backberry's but this one... WOW! that is one sexy phone.

I had 7 pearls now. i just got yet my 6th replacement for the pearl. I think their phones are cheaply made or else they need to fix the issues with them. Besides that, i loved it when it actually worked. Good for my business and for when I needed to set up calendar and schedule appointments.

It really depends on your use. I don't have one and I don't think I'd use it to its full potential (especially because I can't afford to add a data plan to my bill), but one of my friends has one and loves it. I have the enV 2 and it's perfect for me since it has the full keyboard and I text enough to make that worth while.

I'm very happy with my Pearl 8100 (but I'll still be buying an N95-4).

I love the great battery life and that I can go overnight somewhere and not bring a charger and still be able to talk.

I love the screen visibility in sunlight.

I love the tight messaging integration so I can keep in touch with people via SMS, email and MSN with little hassle.

The media player is pretty basic but the battery life on it is great. Considering it comes quite cheap as a subsidised phone I'd easily recommend it to anyone.

It does everything a "mobile" is supposed to do in terms of keeping you in touch with whomever you want to keep in touch with. Definitely worth it.

When AT&T finally releases the Bold (9000), I'll be picking it up. I've had a Razr (V3, V3i, V9) and a few other Motos and I'm tired of having a phone that I can't do much with. It seems more practical to have a BB, for personal or business. It'd be worth mentioning that I'm a pretty "now now now" kind of person though and like having the amenities that the Bold will offer right at my fingertips.

I've only had my curve a few days but I have never liked a phone as much as this before. In fact I'm at work replying to this post using it. I have to say I don't like the back side of the bold. I prefer the smoothness of the curve.

I love my bb curve, the perfect text/email/messenger machine, the qwerty keyboard is perfect (also the call quality, batt life, and build are quite nice)

I also enjoy my htc diamond (its a great device, fun to hack/tweak/play around with)

I've only had my curve a few days but I have never liked a phone as much as this before. In fact I'm at work replying to this post using it. I have to say I don't like the back side of the bold. I prefer the smoothness of the curve.

The Javelin is coming out after the Bold (T-Mobile for sure) and is smaller. It lacks 3G support, but its basically the same phone in a smaller body [similar to the Curve].

I'm waiting for AT&T to release it just so I can take a look at it and see if I'll like it. One thing I've read that I already won't like is that the phone isn't actually metal like it is made to look - its silver painted plastic. It will be hard for me to get over that after owning a black V9, which is absolutely stellar looking.

Quick edit - One complaint that I've heard about Blackberry phones (Curve and Pearl on Sprint that I know of) is that they don't do MMS. Is this true for all providers? If so, whats the deal? That would seem like an awesome function for the phone since it has the big screen.

Just checked: I can definitely do MMS messaging on my Curve through Bell Mobility

I've had 2 blackberries for work....

They are used for receiving emails from work mainly and an occasional sms and messenger....being a 24/7 operation.

It's light, slim and easy to use...

It was never a phone to be cool factor...I needed to be kept uptodate with emails. I didn't like the windows phones.

The only other phone I'd consider is the iPhone for receiving emails...

Blackberries have always been targetted to the business market and for that purpose they're extremely good - there's a strong level of support among network administrators for push email, and its scheduling capabilities are particularly suited to the office environment. With the new phones, Blackberry are targeting themselves as manufacturing more consumer devices, however my opinion is that the interface needs a little work, even among the new models, to broaden the attraction beyond the niche market attraction it's still enjoying.

The iPhone has shown that all-in-one devices incorporating email and scheduling can really work with consumers and be presented in a manner that users ENJOY using, as opposed to being forced to use them by their line manager. There's no reason why Blackberries can't continue to grow as a consumer device if they actively work at it.

Blackberry could've been the phone to produce the first touch screen...if they were forward thinking enough.

but iPhone has a more user friendly and intuitive OS combined with the ease of touch.

I think Blackberry is now working on a touch phone but it will have to come better than the iPhone's interface.....nothing is as easy to use and navigate as the iPhone IMO.

This is the Touch Screen contender from blackberry..... how easy and intuitive will the software be..

BlackBerry Thunder now the BlackBerry 9500, OS 4.7.0

Here are some new images of the BlackBerry 9500, known as Thunder, running version 4.7 of the BlackBerry OS. This will be the first touch screen enabled BlackBerry and from the looks of it RIM is trying to further increase their reach into the consumer space by appealing to the multimedia crowd. You can’t really tell how tight it’s going to be by just these few pictures, but hey, someone out there is going to use this as flame bait in an online forum. The screen has a 480?360 pixel display and the key selling point is that it will tie into an operators’ existing music store offering.
