I don't think it should be mandatory. It would make it more confusing for the average buyer. Such a move would only benefit tech savvy buyers. I guess you can only understand if you've worked in a retail electronics store.

well they have all the other spec's so whats one more.

The problem is that even the retail guys don't know what type of panel it is, much less the difference between panel types.

So when a ustomers asks what's the best panel for him, they can't give him the correct answer.

yes it should be mandatory.

Good for those who know what, and the differences between various panel types. However, the AVERAGE person (note, I consider the average person on Neowin to be above average in terms of technological prowess) could care less about what type of panel a monitor uses.

Then again, if you know that various panel types exist, and what the differences between them are, then you would probably also know how to find out what panel the monitor uses.

TN's are the only ones reasonable price right now, :p

anyway, i say yeah.

I don't agree. I have two monitors to my main computer right now, a Dell 2408WFP and a Dell 2007FP -- both non-TN panels -- and IMO they weren't expensive. I paid only $535 after tax and those crappy environmental fees for the 2408 recently and I think it's really reasonable for a 24" S-PVA 8-bit panel.
