Half-Life 1 for $0.98 on Steam - celebrating 10 years of Half-Life

Recommended Posts

I've had it since it came out in 1998 but it's still nice for those who haven't played it yet. I don't know why they didn't just make it free for a short time though. Why hassle people with Paypal or credit cards over 98 cents?

Edit: I just now realized the 1998, 98 cents connection.

I got HL1 and HL:S* a while ago, it's a great game and everybody should get it at that price.

* Source for updated engine and features, original for the original feeling and HL1 mods

Quick question, HL:S is just normal HL with an updated physics engine isn't it?

It's Half-Life running on the Source engine, so it gains Havok physics (ragdolls, etc.), but also support for all the new shaders and such (There's a port of the HD pack, with normal maps and such)

Back when I entered high school we would play Half-Life multiplayer every lunch time. Later I got my hands on the game and did the single-player, what an immersive experience.

Coming back to it today, however, it seems primitive and frustrating. All those stupid jumping puzzles, climbing up and down ladders, pressing switches... Yes, I am spoiled by Half-Life 2 and the episodes.

Shame it's not HL: Source, it's the only thing missing from my collection and I don't really feel like paying $10 for what is essentially a quick port from HL1 to Source.

You're not missing anything, I tried it on a friend's computer and it's a ripoff. It looks exactly the same except for the water, and crude ragdoll physics. I don't know why they even bothered, but they should have just replaced the regular Half-Life with it on Steam and made it the same price.

There is a group doing a complete rewrite of Half-Life on the source engine though and it looks incredible.

HL:Source was made for mod groups, it was showing how easy it was to convert a "GoldSrc" game to run on the Source engine.

    • You pay just $100 per TB with this rare 4TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD deal by Sayan Sen SSDs and GPUs are incredibly hard to get nowadays due to high pricing. Discounts are quite rare which is why we report on them as soon as we spot a good deal. For example AMD's new 9070 GRE was finally up for sale at a very good price of just $500 thanks to a special coupon. Sadly that deal is gone but if you happen to be looking for a 4TB NVMe SSD and can spend around $400 there is a really good offer on sale that you should not miss out on as TeamGroup's 4TB G50 model is on sale for that that price which means you are only paying $100 per TB, a very good deal in the current market (purchase link under the specs table down below). The TeamGroup T-FORCE G50 NVMe SSD is a PCIe Gen4 drive and as such it promises to deliver sequential read speeds of up to 5,000 MB/s, helping accelerate game loading, file transfers, and everyday computing tasks. Since this is a 4TB drive you can use it for a gaming library to take advantage of things like DirectStorage. The SSD features an InnoGrit controller and SLC caching technology to support consistent performance. An ultra-thin, patented graphene heatsink is included to aid in heat dissipation. Get it at the link below: Team Group T-FORCE G50 4TB Internal SSD (TM8FFE004T0C129): $449.99 + $50 off w/ promo code SSF69668, limited offer => $39.99 (Sold and Shipped by Newegg US) Good to know This Amazon deal is U.S. specific, and not available in other regions unless specified. • I agree. I also think Phil stayed too long. They should definitely fire whoever thought all a console platform needed was Call of Duty, Elder Scrolls, and Fallout to survive. Asha and crew are still saying they need more Elder Scrolls and Fallout games. They simply don't get it.
    • Macbook Air is an appealing option, as are plethora of Windows devices with various different CPU's
