LCD Brightness hack?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So I currently have a Dell Inspiron 640m (e1405 in the US) and I've noticed the Maximum LCD Brightness has decreased a substantially. I wanted to know if there was any way I could use any kind of software or modified firmware in it to make it brighter, paticullarly since it wasn't that bright to begin with.

I'd appreciate any help I can get in regards to this.

The only thing I could recommend is a new inverter..they are about $10 on ebay - just make sure you get the right one - and they are very easy to replace...

Other than that - you might want a company I used to work for Khalkedon Technologies (no www site) they sell them by the thousands as well as LCD screens for DeLL laptops...

they are big on ebay - if you want to deal with them directly - they are located in N. Dallas -

but if its dim there is no firmware flash possibility, and flashing it to another model will of course ruin it...

dell: if you are having trouble seeing your screen move to a darker location

actually if you xan get a tech out there on their dime call them and say you think your back light is going out. that the screen is too dim to be useful and get a new inverter and backlight even. if theyll cover it...

it wont be super bright but at least is would be bright as new hehehehehe

I still have warranty for my system (and they'll send a guy to install it), do you think I should call DELL up and demand they do something to make my screen brighter? Will they listen?

If you have warranty then the low brightness is covered by warranty and you can get the LCD replaced. Call them up/chat with them ASAP
