I was thinking about building a computer in the next few months and was wondering if the i7's will eventually have microatx motherboards.

I have a microatx case laying around and was thinking about using that, however after searching newegg I noticed there are no microatx motherboards that support the i7 yet.

Am I correct in assuming this is because the i7 is a new processor and not many motherboards are out there yet?

There should be a P55 series oc chipsets by spring, Intel usually goes high end first then a mid-level refresh a few months later. I'm planning a Core i7 build for next fall based on this expectation.

P55 won't run the current chips , it has LGA1156 (at least the last time we heard about it )

The current i7 socket, LGA-1366, will only have the X58 chipset and current Nehalem CPUs.

I don't think they suit well the mATX world.

Intel decided to cut in two their next gen chips, all the mainstream CPUs will have a different Socket, LGA-1156, and Chipset (P55 and G55?).

I don't think you will really see mATX boards before the Socket LGA-1156 platform release due for the end of 2009.

Sorry, but Intel decided to maintain Core 2 longer.

Theres talk that DFI may create mATX X58 board... somehow i dont think that'll happen. DFi may may make a mATX board off P55 like their current matx P45 board, only p45 matx out there.

else its till 2009 end for G55

i forgot to point one thing , i dont think it would be named P55/G55

it wont have a Northbridge chip (the name were Pxx/Gxx came from)

just the south bridge chip , everything what used to be in NB would be integrated into the cpu igp/pcie/imc etc

P55(Ibexpeak) is confirmed. G55 equivalent will be like Fusion. GPU on CPu

DFI LP JR X58-T3H

DFI pulled through with the xfire P45...looks like I have more faith in them than most.

that scheme may mean its mATX.. still considering there's never been a matx X38/X48. i wont be holding my breath on X58 matx.

Yet another reason to wait it out, if you follow Intel's tick-tock cadence I think (unless you need an upgrade right this minute for myriad reasons) you are better off waiting for the tock. Having jumping early on a Conroe/P965 I can say the refinement in Wolfdale/P35 alone were more than worthy of a little waiting.

    • Call of Duty: Vanguard, EA Sports FC 26, and more come to Xbox Game Pass by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe Microsoft is in the process of making some big changes to Xbox Game Studios right now, which might include studio shutdowns, but Game Pass drops aren't pausing for that. The second wave of June was just announced, unveiling another Call of Duty addition, the latest soccer game from EA, an indie road trip hit from last year, and more. While Microsoft said it won't put Call of Duty titles on Game Pass on the day of launch anymore, older titles keep landing, with the latest one being 2021's Call of Duty: Vanguard. Here are all the games that were announced today for Xbox Game Pass, their platforms, and arrival dates: Junkster (Cloud, XBOX Series X|S, Handheld, and PC) – June 16 Call of Duty: Vanguard (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 17 EA Sports FC 26 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – June 18 Abyssus (Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC) – June 25 RV There Yet? (Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC) – June 30 Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 (Cloud, Console, and PC) – July 2 Winds of Arcana: Ruination (Cloud, Console, Handheld, and PC) – July 6 From the bunch, Junkster is the sole day-one drop into Game Pass libraries of this selection. As new games arrive, eight will be leaving the Game Pass programs on June 30. Here's the full list of leaving titles: Mecha Break (Cloud, Console, and PC) Payday 2 (Console) Rise of Tomb Raider (Cloud, Console, and PC) Tomb Raider (Cloud, Console, and PC) Slay the Spire (Cloud, Console, and PC) Ultimate Chicken Horse (Cloud, Console, and PC) Volcano Princess (Cloud, Console, and PC) Unpacking (Cloud, Console, and PC) With June drops finished, Microsoft should have a new Game Pass announcement in about two weeks to reveal the first wave of games coming to subscribers in July. Already confirmed games for the month include the Halo: Campaign Evolved remake, Corsair Cove, SpeedRunners 2: King of Speed, and Mistfall Hunter.
