808's and Heartbreaks

I am going to listen to it tonight. Thing is, Kanye does my head in with the BS he spouts, and I find it hard to separate the music from the idiot.

"Taking a sample, looping it and doing all that 'throw your hands up in the sky' thing has become such a clich?. Hip-hop is over for me. I sing, not rap, on this album. I now want to be grouped among those musicians you see in those old black and white photos - the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, the Beatles. And I'm not going to get there by doing just another rap album full of samples.I've had to create a whole new musical genre to describe what I'm doing now and I'm calling it 'pop-art' - which is not to be confused with the visual art movement. I realise that my place and position in history is that I will go down as the voice of a generation.>"

Nob!

The guy's an idiot. His style of musical directing is getting way too old, it's always about old school samples mixed with the new. As for 808s, I know that auto-tune was added to his voice but listening to it makes me feel like his voice too was modified. He wants to make this a new musical genre, when T-Pain was one of the firsts to come up with the autotuned voice and made it mainstream. Even T-Pain sings on his albums so, how is this a new genre when the process was about 80% done already?

I used to like Kanye West when he first released his debut album. Now, his head's gotten huge. In Graduation, there was only 3 songs worth mentioning and they, all three, turned out to be singles.

Listen to Lupe Fiasco, much better. The kid don't brag.

He is the very self absorbed and I would have preferred if he shut up and let people who can actually sing, sing. I can't believe he even put himself in the same category as those other artists...

Lupe may not brag as much, but he is painfully sanctimonious and heavily overrated. Oddly enough, my favourite song by him (The Cool) was produced by Kanye.

Lupe overrated? not really. To each his opinion but listen to the songs "The Instrumental" "American Terrorist" and "Streets On Fire" you'll see why the guy's on a better level than Kanye. As for Kanye's production skills? They are great, the guy's a talented producer but his producing techniques are getting heavily re-used over and over again. Worst thing is, this guy doesn't even realize how much he brags and boasts. He thinks whatever he says is absolutely normal.

If I put him on the artistic scale, then yes, of course, the guy's a good artist. He classes himself under "hiphop" I'd say more like "rap" and "rnb". His new cd, the songs are catchy and that's about it. Like I said, his first cd was a great cd and actually felt deep. Now he's way over his head and it sucks because it's actually ruining a what-could've-been a great career.

In the end, he will be remembered but not for his greatness. People down the road will think of him as the guy who always thaught he was the best and thaught he invented a new genre while all he did was sing with autotune, something already done before. Oh and of course, don't forget; the guy who wanted to be in the Bible.
