[urgent] pc boot problems

Recommended Posts

my dell xps 210 decided not to boot today. when i turn it on it just keeps on giving me short beeps endlessly. what can this be? ram? gfxcard?

it just goes *beepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeep........

i know 2 beeps are a gfxcard error. i recently added more ram and a new gfxcard. my pc has been running without any problems for like two weeks now tho.

please help!

Does the board post to the bios or just beep-- if it just beeps I would unplug the power cord and take out the cmos battery then hit the power button -- Though one note-- you will have to go back into the bios and reset the time. I would try that first-- If you had it over clocked you will lose those settings.

There are more things to try. Unless you know how to do a jumper reset.

Could be RAM. Try doing a BIOS reset first by pulling out the CMOS battery.

If that doesn't work then try swapping out the parts that you've recently replaced for older parts that you know work on your system.

Start with your RAM by testing one stick at a time (or if you're using only one stick, then swap your old RAM into the system)

i can turn the pc on, buit it does not even post or something. google says a contant short beep code might be a defective psu?

edit: i am now back on my current pc. i reseated all components and rechecked all wires. gonna clean this ple of cables today and remove some usbdevices. hrmmm.

Defective PSU-- I have heard of people to test this theory -- lightening the load to the PSU.

If you run a PCIE/AGP/PCI video card and the computer has onboard-- Take those cards out-- reset the bios and see if it posts using the onboard Video. Also people have been known to also disconnect CD/DVD (to include burners) to see if it does post.

I know the newer video cards use that extra power connection. Could possibly be that your PSU may not have enough juice in it to boot and run the card all the time.
