Evangelion 1.0 Movie in theaters July 17th

Recommended Posts

I was browsing the Apple Trailers website and found this

http://www.apple.com/trailers/independent/evangelion10/

Is it the same as this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evangelion_1.0 <-- this says US release date november 10th??

I searched the forums and didn't find anything about the movie in the apple link

If it is the same then it's a remake/reboot in movie form of the series, I have seen the series but Is Evangelion really popular enough here in the US for these 4 movie re-imaginings to go to theaters ?

I find that hard to believe when the Appleseed and Vexille Anime movies, just by their flashy new style would have been great theater candidates, maybe its just me.

Wondering what others think about this film?

i was randomly browsing these last night too.. thought it might be a live action but i was a bit disappointed when it wasn't :(

still, looks good! probs end up watching it! :D

edit: also, i just watched the trailer for vexille and Ex Machina, not seen them before but the 3d cgi stuff looks excellent! i see what you mean now

the usual close up shots, giant robots, things moving fast, lots of lines, triangle faces, huge eyes, this is why I can't stand anime, no matter how much people says it's cool. Wasn't impressed one bit by the trailer, you'd think the animators might just one day dare to do something different? The style is always the same which makes all anime movies and tv shows look very similar.

There are VASTLY different styles and techniques of Anime drawing, and "Anime" as we know it today is the modern evolution of a cultural storytelling method that has a history lasting thousand's of years.

the Robots for Transformers movies were very closely regulated as to their style, at one point Hasbro asked Michael bay to re-do Optimus's head because his "ears/horns whatever they are" were not high enough and did not follow a samurai armor theme.

Are you going to tell me you haven't seen "Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not)" Alone yet?! It is indeed a re-telling of the original story and they fixed/added stuff to id. There's a new EVA model with it's new pilot in the 2nd movie and the last movie will give the whole franchise a new ending :) I'd recommend it to you to see it if you've seen the series.

I wish they'd showed it in theaters here in the Netherlands, though I think that the theaters wouldn't be that full. And in the nearest theaters I'd probably be the only one seeing it :p

See the difference between the trailers ....

English -

Japanese -

English version is a bit too "Hollywood", aimed at the wider audience. While the Japanese version stays true to those that have seen the original series.

I'd like to see it in Japanese with English subtitles on the big screen, doubt that will happen in the UK :/

Radish?

True... English dubs aren't all that great :pinch:

Sadly, quite unlikely

From that trailer it seems that the English-dubbed Shinji will still sound like a whiny kid?

Edit: Japanese trailer is much better, looks like the animators put a lot more minor details. Too bad they changed Fly Me To The Moon to be more "pop".

have you seen end of evangelion when ever he opens his mouth he screams(but he had good reasons)

Sadly, quite unlik:no::no:

If i were you i'd keep my eyes on the BFI's site.

BTW: Hey there Radish!

Hey mate, haven't seen you in a while! I hope all is well on your side :)

We need to catch up on WLM

Heard or seen any rumblings about this happening any time soon?

Radish?

i cant imagine that someone can, want watch anime with dubbing O_o; for me its like killing part of the story.

I wouldn't mind if i spoke the Language lol, but i've also seen some really bad subs which can sometimes be worse than the dubs lol

There's a big difference in the way that the dubs are spoken compared to the original Japanese spoken voices. Japanese voice actors are putting more emotion in their voice acting compared to the dubs. And with that I mean every dub, not only the one for this movie. I mean, dubs are sounding way to "made" compared to the original Japanese voice acting. It's kind off hard for me to explain but I guess you all understand what I mean :)

Man I'd love a new GitS theatrical movie. To this day I still say the original GitS movie was the best anime I've ever seen.

I used to love Evangelion, but I hated the ending. Are they changing it around for this version I take it?

I saw this in Houston on July 16th at the Alamo Drafthouse. It was just a promo copy of the DVD upscaled to 1080i, but I enjoyed it. Packed house, Tiffany was there (voice of Asuka, who is not in this film). They gave out several boxed sets of various anime (aparently they do this and show free screenings of anime every Tuesday) and some Eva posters - of course I didn't win any :p I wanted to ask Tiffany about the live action version but too many people were hoarding her after, so I just left. I thought the dub was done very well fwiw.

To answer the OP, it is the same. November is the DVD release. The guy running the show said the Blu-Ray (1.11) would be out in the USA in Spring 2010.

This movie is pretty much episodes 1-6 totally remade and crammed into an hour and a half or so. There were a few added scenes, but most of it was the same as the TV series.

^That's a few extra things to the movies; a few new scenes. The final movie will be the movie which will be totally different then the series :)

About the live action movie; Didn't they drop those plans? I honestly hope they did and they're not going to revisit the idea.
