First to mods apologies if this is in wrong section.

I have seen the recent news items on technet plus topic and I am looking at getting a subscription.

My question is this as it seems there is lots of conflicting info on the internet.

Do you get 1 key per product with 10 activations.

Or do you get 10 unique keys per product.

So could I get windows 7 ultimate and install on 3 different pc's using unique keys or is it sharing one key between all 3 pcs?

Thanks

AFAIK It's not unique key's, although you will get multiple product keys for products (example, a volume license and retail license). Key's shouldnt be an issue if you have it really, 3 PC's for "testing" purposes is nothing ;)

If your really curious, I'll have my technet subscription in a few days.

If you're thinking of getting a Technet and using it for your own benefit don't. Its against the EULA.

Technet is a service provided so techs/developers can test out systems before implementing them. Not a cheap way of obtaining software.

Yeah, you aren't supposed to use this as a means of getting cheap software.

Let's say you chose Vista from the list, there is ONE retail key, which is good for 10 activations. You can if needed, request another key, same goes for most software on there. I don't believe ANY of the products are OEM. They are either retail or VLK.

Okay my technet order was processed today.

And yeah, you get 10 CD keys (Retail) per product for the main part, and some MAK keys for some versions of Vista (havnt checked everything yet). There are VLK copys on technet too, but from what I see you need to provide your own VLK to use them.

Looks like this, and yeah the above posters are right software is for evaluation only, not a cheap way to get software etc.

As the above poster has mentioned I can confirm for most software you are able to obtain 10 retail keys which can be activated upto 10 times. There is some software such as Home Server, SBS Server etc which only have one unique key.

Whilst the intent of technet is to provide a cheap testing environment etc, lets not be so naive as to think that people dont use these for their home use. Realistically those that know about technet, that actually sign up and would try to make a profit from a machine running a license from technet are so small im sure MS is just happy to have some cash especially when the home user could just as easily pirate the software. I'm not advocating using technet for purposes against its EULA the reality is theres been a lot of good technet discounts lately and theres a lot of good reaosns to get one but lets not bury our heads in the sand or attach a disclaimer to every second post about it.

    • There is a lot of reasons not to use Edge but faster fixes and security updates is not one of them.
    • Can't reproduce. I installed Edge, went to neowin.net > accepted the cookie consent > used menu to go to forums, everything loads and I can browse around the forums. If you can't interact with the dialog on the forums for some reason, go to the main site and accept the cookie consent there? It is true that the site will not function properly until the cookie consent is accepted or rejected,. it's a legal requirement and I also know that certain VPN/ad blockers block it, which is a user related issue and not a neowin.net problem.   This is not our cookie consent dialog. Gotta love browser hijacking... /s Edit: this may be what Californians see, I will confirm with our consent provider.
