PGHammer
Usually there isn't much new to be found in upgreades to Solaris (or OpenSolaris) in the way of hardware support; however, 09.06 is different. This release includes a trainload of new graphics drivers (not just nVidia, but even AMD-based cards; in fact, every AMD HD GPU from 48xx down is now supported out of the box, including those pesky Mobility Radeon HD-series GPUs). This was definitely fantastic news to me; I was running the original release of OpenSolaris (5-08) and was stuck with the VGATEXT driver, because my HD3450 (a desktop variation of the Mobility Radeon HD34xx series) wasn't supported (worse, I was trapped in a gadawful 1440x1050 desktop, with a "picture frame" of black around the desktop). *Ewwwwwwww.* That is fixed. Post-update, I have a VERY lovely 1920x1080 non-interlaced desktop. The quibbles? nVidia Ethernet still isn't supported directly (neither is the Sound Blaster X-Fi)
