Which ATI Radeon HD 4670 model do I go for?

There are various 4670 models, some with slower 1GB RAM, some with faster 512MB RAM, some factory overclocked (e.g. the Sapphire). Which 4670 model is better?

I'd go with the HIS IceQ simply for the better cooling and probably lower noise levels.

Any idea how it compares to a NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT?

4670 is about 30-50% faster than 8600GT, for example in Left 4 Dead at 1920x1200 with 8xAA and 16xAF with everything up high the 4670 pushes 30FPS the 8600GT can barely manage 14FPS.

I forgot to mention that the Sapphire Ultimate has lower clocked memory (873 vs. 1000MHz). The memory chips are spec'ed for 1GHz though, so you can "overclock" to the default clock.

The 9500 GT is by the way a rebranded 8600 GT. In some games, the 9600 GSO looks like the better card for the same price, but overall the performance crown goes to the 4670.

Any of the 4670 models you mentioned are good, but I'd take the ASUS or HIS because they usually have nice customized coolers that run with less noise (and the ASUS is just ?2 more for 1GB of GDDR3 ram).

Of course you want 1GB of VRAM !>
