Phantom Drive Letter Removal

Recommended Posts

I've got a phantom drive Q: on my fresh Win7 install that is driving me batty. I'm contemplating a reinstall as all attempts to locate and remove this drive so far have failed. I believe this all started when I uninstalled Sun's VirtualBox which I 'think' created it to share data to my VM's. I've tried reinstalling Virtualbox but it appears that any config information would have been attached to the VM that no longer exists.

-Nothing in device manager to remove

-Registry searches haven't turned up anything

-Nothing to remove or unmount in Disk Management

Where would it be hiding? TIA

To clear it up, just go to start, control panel, click the tab at the top right and change it to large or small items, (makes finding stuff easier), open administrative tools, open computer management, open disk management on the left. You can right click each volume and do what you wish with them. :)

Uninstalling that app got me thinking so I reviewed my installation logs and discovered the culprit. I forgot I was testing Microsoft's Application Virtualization Desktop Client. I did a cursory registry search and sure enough there it was under the SoftGrid settings. I removed them and did a repair install of the client. After a reboot I'm now free of that damned drive. Yay!

All apologies VirtualBox, you make a fine product.
