Windows 7 versions

Recommended Posts

I am drawing from my knowledge on Vista when I ask these questions..

1.) Like Vista Ultimate retail upgrade, does 7 Ultimate retail upgrade come with both 32 bit and 64 bit DVD disks?

2.) Like Vista Ultimate retail upgrade, does 7 Ultimate retail upgrade contain all the versions of 7 on one DVD?

3.) Like Vista Ultimate retail upgrade, could I use the 7 Ultimate retail upgrade DVD to perform re-installs of OS using OEM product ID?

Please bear in mind that reinstalls will be using the product ID from the certificate of authenticity on the desktop/laptop.

it was really convenient helping friends out that lost their media, and only had product ID.

Thanks so much in advance... :)

Thanks once again Kirbeh and Saint..

So. 7's Ultimate upgrade retail DVD out of the box does not support choosing the OS during setup if you dont enter the product id? What happens during setup for say, I have a ultimate retail cd, but enter a home premium product id? will it install home premium?

Also, does anyone know the answer to my #1 and #3 questions?

Thanks again.. :)

It asks for the serial at the end of the installation. It will install whatever version it "is" and then ask for the serial. If you install an ultimate disc then you can not put the serial for home premium in. If you modify the disc, at the beginning of the setup it will ask for which version to install. Choose the version whose serial you will be using and you will be fine.

awesome.. thanks for the response mrp04..

I don't know about the OEM part, but I'm fairly sure both 32 and 64 are NOT included on one disc.

    • It does invite Linux because MS should have been improving their products all along these years instead chose to ignore the users now this year they’re making all of these improvements to their products where as Linux doesn’t have this kind of problems in fact it has gotten so good I can even play Windows games in Steam that I no longer ever needed Windows to carry on with my life, unlike you still use Windows and chose to try beat down down those who don't use Windows because they love their LG TV. (Surprisingly I actually own a 55” LED LG TV and it has been going strong for almost 14 years, longer than any Sony TV”)
    • As much as I love owning my own hardware, it's hard to argue with the value. I'm not a huge gamer, I'd actually be interested in a cheaper plan with limited monthly hours, or even a pay-by-the-hour plan.
    • Well, they (LibreOffice/The Document Foundation) are bitchy and whiny, yes, but they're right, at least this time. It doesn't make sense to market something as "free and open source to thwart dependency on foreign companies' software" but at the same time, using the formats of said companies (Microsoft) by default. That way, you are changing nothing, essentially, you're just using another UI. We all know that users just use the defaults and almost never change them. I'm not saying they should drop other formats altogether, but they shouldn't default to the thing they're trying to run away from in the first place. If you're gonna do something, just go all the way in, don't stop in the middle, IMO. Otherwise, shut up and move along.
