when i was a kid, i remember seeing this one episode of NG, wher Commander Riker was attached to some "dream machine" and he couldn't wake up. well eventually he did, and he escapes...

but mostly the episode was about things that he couldn't make sense of. or something.

what was the name of the episode?

I'm not sure if this is the episode you're talking about, but there is one titled "Shades of Gray" where Riker has some intense dreams. In the episode, he is infected with a virus that could kill his brain. You can read more about it here.

well it turned out he was captured by another ship, and they hooked him up to the machine. it started out where you wouldn't even guess that happened, but then stuff suddenly started to not make sense and suddenly (at the end) he wakes up... then escapes etc..
