Smoking near a Apple Branded Computer Voids The Warranty

Recommended Posts

As a longterm smoker I feel as this is really wrong for any company to do I have seen some nasty PC's that were coated in heavy tar but I dont think it should affect the warrenty

I feel that a device should be able to withstand smoking around the computer.

Unless you've just arrived in 2009 on a time machine, you know that smoking isn't good for you. Did you know, that smoking isn't good for your computer, either? It's true, at least according to Apple. Two readers in different parts of the country claim that their Applecare warranties were voided due to secondhand smoke. Both readers appealed their cases up to the office of Steve Jobs himself. Both lost

Smoking around a laptop isnt a big deal, yes it makes things yellow.. but the main cause is from overheating.. the smoke is very thick and moist, honestly if you smoke around your computer laptop... prepare for hell.. maybe not right away but in the long run youll see how much crap is accumulated from smoking around it.. which is why i think if your gonna smoke around it, dont blow it at the machine but away, and do regular cleanings.

you don't think the brown good that makes all the dust sticky and clingy on the fans helps with the overheating ?

Sure does, I think a smokers computer will accumulate more dust and nastiness then a non smoker.

I think this should be approached with a leveled head. Is Apple about to start asking "Are you a smoker?" when you call AppleCare? No, probably not. However, if your machine dies and they discover it was due to a wall to wall layer of brown dust lining it, should they be able to claim you've voided your warranty? Yes, they should.

There is expected wear and tear, and then there is carelessness. Frying your notebook by smoking is no different than frying your notebook by spilling a drink on it. It is no fault of the manufacturer.

Oh, please. I learned when I was 7 that it was bad to smoke around a computer. That's been a "rule" of computing forever. Does that stop me from smoking (around my computer)? No, not really, but if you can't keep your computer clean and it dies because of all the nasty **** the fans suck in from your nicotine habit why should a warranty cover that? Apple are some greedy ****ers, but I do agree with this. Warranties should cover products that are defective or become defective within the time of the warranty, not products you destroyed.

That's the result of tar buildup inside a computer. The tar sticks to the insides which makes dirt and dust stick to it. Dust build up is from friction and magnetism which is why it is so easy to clean. Tar build up requires you to clean the tar off the components.

i really dont see why you cant simply dip your computer in water to get the dust out and then let it dry COMPLETELY before using it again!

as long as you dont let water touch the screen and the device isnt plugged in, whats the harm?

everything is metal or plastic, so should be ok eh?

    • It use to be a nightmare, with LibreOffice supporting a newer draft ODF standard by default, and Microsoft Office supporting the older non-draft standard. Now that they both support the same version of ODF, they should be interoperable.

    • Hi. As the title suggests, I can't access the forum on my phone. I'm using Edge on Android and when I try to navigate to the forum I get a "we value your privacy" popup and none of the buttons are clickable. It effectively stonewalls me from reading any forum content.
    • Honestly you're not wrong about AdGuard. Neowin frequently has lifetime license discounts for them and that's how I got my cheap family license a few years ago to run it on all my devices.
