Ram Voltage?

So I'm getting ready to buy all the parts for my new build and I just noticed that the ram I'm buying says "Supply voltage 1.65 V" whereas my motherboard states "Memory 4 x 1.5V DDR3 DIMM sockets supporting up to 16 GB of system memory"

Can I run the Ram on the motherboard, and will it damage it or not? I read something about 1.65V damaging i7 or something?

i5 and i7 use 1.65V memory but lower wouldn't hurt. BTW Corsair, Crucial, and maybe others have online tools to check the right memory for your motherboard or computer:

Yes you just bump up the voltage.

The RAM will run at a speed to run at 1.5V so if the ram can go faster you have to change the ram speed and voltage or if its XMP RAM you just change that and does both automatically.

@Metallizorz - what board do you have anyways?

You could also go on the safe side and just buy DDR3 that runs at 1.5V. G.SKILL has various memory sets at 1.5V.

The board is a Gigabyte P55-UD3.

So the ram will run at 1.5V to accommodate the motherboard, but if I want to use it at 1.65V will I have to change the settings for the motherboard in the bios to allow it to run at 1.65?
