Start Menu Search (How to limit)

I migrated to Windows 7 from Windows XP, Basically I am giving Win 7 a trial run.

What I loved to do in XP was to pin some shortcuts to the start menu I would just press Win+(First letter of shortcut) to launch it.

Now because of the darn search thingy in win 7 I cannot do that.

I thought that maybe I can limit this search function to only look at a single folder (where I would keep my shortcuts) and launch them easily like that. Is there any way I could do this?

I tried limiting the index function but still some other results appear when I search.

Start menu> search "index options" > "modify" > select folders that you want to index

Alternatively, you can access the index options through the Control Panel.

I don't know what you mean exactly, but I just tried it and it works fine. If I press Win+1 it opens the first program I have pinned in the start menu. You have to keep holding the Win button when you press the number of the corresponding program, don't just press it and release it.

This works with the taskbar in Windows 7. So whichever programs you pin the to taskbar simply press the Windows Key + the number from the left the program is located at.

Thank You all for the replies, pinning stuff to the taskbar is almost as good as the XP start menu trick, and works fine for me.

You can set a shortcut key (Ctrl+Alt+key) by going to the properties on a shortcut. Its two buttons instead of one, but the same thing otherwise.
