New Built - Need Advice

Recommended Posts

New Build:

Chip: Intel Core i7-975 Extreme Edition Bloomfield 3.33GHz LGA 1366 130W Quad-Core Processor Model BX80601975

-- I might go with the 960, I don't see the extra .1GHZ as a major factor, nor the QPI for the extra money.

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD7 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

-- I love the bells and whistles, but I've seen the pics and the reviews, people are complaining about the tight space when putting in graphics cards, which I really don't want to have that problem. Anybody can recommend me anything else?

HD: Seagate Savvio 15K.2 ST9146852SS

-- This thing is a beast, I can't find anything better then that. Anybody got any opinions on it?

Memory: I haven't decided yet, since I'm not too fond with the mobo.

So anybody can give some input, I really wanna change the mobo to something better, preferabbly a 6.0 sata since I'll get the HD 6.0 Also need a monitor, which I have no clue about.

do you have a budget? what is the computer going to be used for?

also, i think you might need a special card (SCSI) in order to get the speed of 15k RPM drives, just go with an SSD, it will be much faster...

they have very nice filters on newegg, you can choose everythign you need (sata ports, pcie e, etc.)

also, if you aren't going to be overclocking a lot, you might want to go with the cheaper version of the i7 as the better versions are ment for overclocking (From what i understand)...

The motherboard shouldnt be a problem of space since it would be the case that will limit the space of a video card.

the above is just advice, not 100% sure, but i am using what i gathered from my own system builds and reading forums and reviews, good luck, if you have any other questions just post here and we should be able to help you :D

cheers

Again, don't waste your money.

USB 3.0/SATA 3 = not ready for prime time yet.

Go for the ASUS P6T Deluxe.

~$290 for a Hard Disk Drive?

Nahh, might as well go for an SSD (OS) + HDD (Storage + Backup) combo.

SSD: OCZ Vertex Series OCZSSD2-1VTX30GXXX.

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache.

Total:

~$240 bucks.

Can't go wrong with Corsair when it comes to RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR 6GB (3 x 2GB).
