Has The Next Stargate SG-1 Movie Been Cancelled?

Has the classic Stargate been shuttered forever? You'd think MGM and NBC/Universal would welcome another Stargate direct-to-DVD movie after fans greeted the first two with open wallets. But sadly, Michael Shanks says another SG-1 film might be DOA.

In an interview with Sci Fi Wire, Michael Shanks, who played Dr. Daniel Jackson for 10 years with recurring roles on SGA and even a cameo in the SGU new recruit informational video, delivered some sad news.

"Given the amount of time lag that's gone on between us doing the movies, I suspect that we might be very far away from, if ever, doing another DVD movie....This might be the closing of the book on that particular [chapter of the] franchise."

"I think everybody's moving on to a certain point," he told the site. "And with the new show doing well, everybody's focusing their attention on that. The SG-1 idea is somewhat on the back burner, which is a little bit unfortunate, because I think one more story would have been a great way to bring Rick [Richard Dean Anderson, Jack O'Neill] back in and really go there. But you know, business is business."

thats too bad. at least sgu hasn't been a let down so far.

tho i would like to see an atlantis movie, they obviously finished the series in a way that you would expect a movie afterwards. but maybe thats on the back burner now too. shame.

That is sad i was really hoping for another one, I hope that the plans for the StarGate Atlantis movie still end up happening, If that does not happen i think they might anger a lot of their audience.

That sucks. I always hoped for another SG1 movie although its wrapped up enough from the first one. Atlantis needs another to finish its story it'd be a real shame if it never gets made. Plus I'd never pass up a chance to see more Rodney McKay. ****in love that character.

I bet if that rubbish vala character was never introduced the series might not of been cancelled. Same goes for atlantis, if they didn't kill off weir & the doc the series might still be on the air. Atleast in star trek they knew not keep changing the main cast.

I do miss Sheppard too, he was a great compliment to the O'Neill character. As for Vala, she was good in the first episode (hijacking the ship) but I didn't like her reoccurring. Getting rid of Weir definitely put Atlantis on a spiral downwards but I don't think it was the main reason for failure. They tried to stick to a linear story too much. Plus they only really had 1 villain, the replicators didn't really have a big arc. One thing I loved about SG1 was many episodes were independent. The various 'dream-like' episodes. One that stands out was where they were imprisoned on a mars-like planet. Another thing that bugged me was the lack of alien races. In SG1 there were many different races. Atlantis seemed to only focus on primitive human races. They should have wrapped up the Wraith earlier on and moved on to other villains.

Yea only having one main villian was a bit poor and they never really progressed very far with it, they pretty much dumbed down the wraith after they brought in the michael character, they no longer seemed that menacing and his character was used way too much, and the todd character seemed to appear quite a bit, but he wasn't as lame. I really wish they hadn't killed off Robert Davi's character, he was the best villian on atlantis. The geni or whatever they were called were a pretty decent foe. As for the replicators, they'd been done way too much. Big fail on atlantis part way through season 4 when they started changing everything.

I actually disliked sg-1 from season 9 onwards but watched it till the end. I thought the ori story was poor and finished off the series.

Completely agree. Michael really ruined the wraith. Todd was alright but not much better. Davi was great with the Geni but they were so primitive in comparison they weren't a worthy villain for the long haul. One arc they never did but I thought would be been amazing was having Tela go bad and become a Wraith, she'd be smart enough to put up one hell of a fight plus it wouldn't be similar to how Teal'c was once evil. The fact that she was a prior team member would make all the interactions that much better. Would also be cool if they had explored the Ford wraith-roided up arc more. I always liked his character and was disappointed when they abandoned him. He could have allied up with the Geni and that would make them more of a threat. Ah well..

And for SG1 I wasn't a huge fan of 8 either but 9-10 were pretty bad. No RDA = No good.
