mp3 Tagging

Question

Hi,

I'd like to know if there's any tagging software that supports multiple values in a single field.

I use the Album Artist tag to group related artists. Any album by Prince & the Revolution/Prince & The NPG goes under the umbrella tag Prince. Similarly, all music by the Eagles, including solo albums by any member go under Eagles.

I have a folder called Cover Collection. It's tagged in the way a regular album would be, and I would like to keep it this way for the most part. Eg: Rod Stewart >AlbumX>SongX

What I want to do is this: Add both the original artist and Cover Collection to the Album Artist tag. I want each song to show up under both artists like so: SongX by Rod Stewart would show up if I selected Artist>Rod Stewart, as well as if I clicked Artist>Cover Collection.

Is this possible? Moreover, would any player recognise such tags properly? I currently use WMP12/Zune player.

Cheers

foobar2000 allows you to put multiple values in regular fields, insert a ; between them and it will format it with a null byte character separating the two artists. Both of them can then be displayed. This will only work in foobar2000, and you will probably see both or only one artist in any other software. Otherwise you can add any arbitrary field to id3v2 tags, and then get it to display both as an artist in foobar. Other software will just show the contents of the artist field. Customising foobar can be tricky, it uses a very basic type of scripting language called title formatting, which you'll need to use to do what you want.
