Hi,

Couple of weeks back i sold my external hard drive due to 'an offer i couldn't refuse' mafia style :D

Ok, so now i've decided to get a NAS, but which one..

think i'm going to get a ReadyNAS Duo as i currently need nowhere near 1Tb of space, that one is keenly priced and it should see me along nicely until the bigger (4 and 6 bay) units get a price drop..

can anyone recommend something different.. ?

I need ftp access, it must be able to stream at a decent rate to ps3 / xbox which i have heard can be an issue on some? of course, tools like bit torrent would be handy but isn't essential.

Also i have an ass load of amazon vouchers knocking around and would prefer to grab it from there if poss

thanks!

dammit, knew i'd get a response like that... should have said, no don't want to build it. ;)

I don't have a) the parts b) the time and c) the room for another pc

Long gone of the days when i could be bothered to tinker with comptuers, now i just buy laptops and use them for work.. how dull :(

Erm, if you don't want to build it, then I suggest something along the lines of Window Home Server. HP have a couple; there are other vendors. Google should help you out to identify the vendors and then just check there options and choose what you like :)

Also, a Drobo could be good (never tried it since I went DIY with my setup because it offers more flexibility)

i posted here after many weeks of googling, i'm after a "i have this NAS and i like it because x, y, z" answers

or links to a good roundup of pre built ones perhaps that is especially informative..

the drobo looks awesome to be honest, but it seems like other manufacturers also do the x-raid feature.. so i feel the price is inflated for no seemingly good reason.

I've a QNAP TS-210 that seems to do the job. I'm quite happy with it on the whole and their support staff were able to connect remotely and fix it when I made a mess of things.

and oooo, i've just watched the video on the QNAP and it looks awesome! thank you, will investigate more now :)

i'm not sure what a NAS is, but it sounds like he wants to set it up on his main desktop.

don't see why the freeNAS thing int eh first reply wouldn't have helped him.

here go buddy: http://en.wikipedia....ttached_storage

    • This 4K webcam from Acer is now only $59.99 by Taras Buria Those looking for an affordable, high-resolution webcam from a reputable manufacturer can check out the latest deal from Acer, which puts its 4K webcam at a solid price. Thanks to a 14% discount, you can buy this all-metal 4K webcam from Acer for just $59.99. Despite the affordable price tag, the webcam has a pretty large 1/2" CMOS sensor manufactured by Sony. Apart from its size, it supports additional conveniences, such as high dynamic range and phase-detection autofocus (PDAF). Plus, the camera ensures you do not have to buy additional audio equipment, as it comes with two built-in high-sensitivity microphones, a built-in background noise filter, and the ability to pick up your voice from up to 2.5 meters away. Acer is not cheaping out on materials, and the webcam is enclosed in a more premium metal case, which is also good at heat dissipation (high-resolution cameras can get quite hot). And to make sure no one is peeping at you when the camera is in use, there is a magnetic cover also made of metal. Additional conveniences include an LED status indicator and a built-in mount that lets you place a camera on a tripod.
