iPhone 3G sloww

Recommended Posts

Hey,

So my 3G (yes, the same one I took for a swim round about December time) has been pretty slow recently, with ridiculous lag.

I'm wondering if there are certain apps which just cause the 3G (since it's discontinued) to just overload. I noticed that playing the iPod and trying to nav Facebook was painful. I've also deleted Boxcar, because for some reason I was getting like 200+ notifications erroneously...

Any other hints/tips?

Thanks,

Stick to iOS 3.1.3, do not uprade

This. I regret upgrading to 4.0 on my iPod Touch 2G. Older devices just can't handle iOS4 or iOS5.

also is it worth jailbreaking? I'm not under any contract obligations or anything like that anymore...

that will just make it even worse

found a post that baby steps how to go back, but is there any way of doing this without losing everything?

seems silly that Mac don't allow you to choose the version of OS that you use.

How do I go back? (that may sound like a stupid question haha)

I will give you a quick breakdown :

1. Get iTunes 9.1.1 (anything later will not work) & delete the iTunes folder in the music folder (so that the old profile is erased, as after using iOS4+ it wont be compatible with iOS3)

2. Download iOS 3.1.3 or 3.1.2

3. Put your iPhone into DFU Mode

4. Install iOS 3.1.3

5. After error halts installation do not panic (its supposed to be like that)

6. Use RecBoot to 'Awaken' your phone.

7. Enjoy the speed & stability of iOS 3

8(a). Sing Hallelujah

8(b). Swear at the buggy/feature incomplete software that is FCP X

I kinda like option (b)

I think it's more the apps themselves than the operating system.

For instance, my iPhone 3G is pretty fluid, but the Facebook app has TONS of pauses and the load time is long. And only that app does this.

Or you can ensure "Spotlight" searches are all unchecked, (settings) this helped me when I was still on a 3G with iOS 4.

^ same here, lost complete interest in my 3G after the iOS 4 update :( things are annoyingly laggy all the time, and the funny thing is I have few apps!

iOS 4 works just fine on my iPod touch 2g. Obviously not as smooth as on my iPad 2, however performance is decent enough. But then again I don't have it filled up tons of apps either.

PS You posted in the wrong subforum btw. https://www.neowin.net/forum/forum/288-iphoneios/

^^ Thanks, sorry, I sometimes do that!

Ok, I'm going to try a few things.

I don't really want to purposefully run outdated software on my Mac just for my iPhone... I may just try and make my iPhone as less-laggy as possible...

It's not unusable, but some Apps are.
