Need Advice: iPhone Substitute

Recommended Posts

So for the last 2+ years, I've been using an iPhone - starting with the 3G first, and currently now with the iPhone 4.

I know the iPhone 5's are due to arrive within the next few months, but I'm also interested in other alternatives. With that said:

What are some existing or upcoming phones which would be good alternatives to an iPhone 5? I'm looking for comparable specs, such as screen size, resolution, performance, app choices - etc, etc, etc.

Shouldn't this be in the Mobile Devices Forums?

  • 2 weeks later...

Samsung SGII with Windows Phone 7.

WP7 bombing? hmmm you must be the rabbit in the race not the tortoise.

Nokia Searay with WP7 :) I can hope. WP7 is such a nice OS that you really need to give it a few days and if you are a phone user and person on the go it is a great device.

I have an IPhone 4(both networks) and a Samsung Focus(WP7) and had HD7S(actually prefer the 4" screen the best"). An SGII in 4" with Super AMOLED PLUS!! end of story.

Yeah, Samsung Galaxy S II - I own both iPhone 4 and SGS II - assuming you are okay to move to Android. I love it except that I miss all my iOS apps and games :(

If you arent in any rush I would wait to see what mango gives us in a couple to few weeks. you'll see a few new WP7 devices and then you can decide between that and an android. It seems the Galaxy for droid and soon to be windowsphone appears to be the best phone out right now.

I quite like my Atrix (Android). Was never one for the whole metro squares that WP7 went for. A lot comes down to user preference. I don't like the blocks, so it was very easy for me to say no to WP7.

Another vote for the Galaxy. Just make sure you stay away from WP7. It's bombing big time and not worth investing in.

Ah. You're one of those guys.

Don't listen to this guy.

I'd definitely agree with Windows Phone 7. I have an HTC Arrive, and the girlfriend has a Samsung Focus.

We both love our phones, and it's nice having Xbox LIVE with the achievements (yes we're geeky and care about our Gamerscore) as well as Zune Pass. It's nice to be able to stream the music wherever, or download it OTA.

+1

I don't understand these kind of guys

They are people with opinions, I myself don't like WP7, mostly due to the interface.. does that make me one of those "guys"?

Will you be switching carriers? I just switched back to Sprint and got the new motorola Photon and love it, this thing blows away any phone I have had to date, including the iphone4 and HTC thunderbolt, any of the WP7 devices are nice too IMO, I haven't seen one yet that I didn't like but the only ones at Sprint have the slide out keyboard and I'm not a big fan of those, I like a full sized 4.3 touch screen much better.

You're missing out if the only reason you didn't get the Arrive was the slide out keyboard.

Then again I am a fan of the keyboards (but very picky about what keyboards I'll use) so I may be biased.

Hardware wise the SGSII is just brilliant. But. I'm not a fan of android OS. Too inconsistent. But it will have all the small feature missing from the iPhone or WP7. I'll recommend WP7. By far the most pleasant OS to use. :) im using it from entertainment to work. Also some great games by Microsoft game studios. But the current WP7 devices are behind in the hardware internals race. Granted I find the Omnia 7 the best looker. There are bound to be better devices when mango comes out and they will feature a faster processor and more storage. So wait a month. Don't forget. Nokia is in the game aswell now. Oh n by no means are these current phones slow. The OS is so neat i am yet to experience One lag. Also im on Mango 7712. So when the apps start to support quick resume it will be a whole new game
