I switched my heatsink/fan from the stock one to a coolmaster one. When I powered back on after I was done setting it all up I got continuous short beeps whenever I turned the computer on. Turned it off and tried again same thing. The third and last time the same thing. Someone noticed ram was a little out I pushed the one slot back in. Then it would bootup but no signal on the monitor ever. Just like the monitor is on but the pc isn't. No video ever. Could never see the BIOS at all. It was working fine too before with the previous heatsink/fan.

Not sure if these are important points but will mention them anyway. I did have the 3 pin fan connector from the heatsink/fan connected to the 4 fan pin on the motherboard. Though switched it to the power supply instead after a few times when trying it at first after getting the continuous short beeps. I did that before pushing the single ram stick back in.

I have noticed too that sometimes after turning the computer on before, strangely enough, when there is no video signal but I see all the fans spinning up I can't turn the computer off by the power button. It just refuses to go off. I have to turn it off by the power switch in the back of the power supply. Right now the computer won't even turn on anymore at this time. I keep wondering what those continuous short beeps were for? It is a Award BIOS. How much thermal paste is a good amount? Just checking to make sure enough was put or not to much.

It sounds like it is RAM related; you may have damaged one of your slots. Try reseating your memory again, and if that doesn't work try taking one module out and testing it with one slot at a time. If none of that makes any difference you might try reseating your CPU also, changing the heat sink may have loosened it's connection.

A pin on the motherboard broke off with the processor and shorted out the motherboard and processor :(

Not sure how this would happy.(I presume you mean happen!) Luckily the PC was getting up there in age still sucks though.

The last bit I'm not quite with you? So is it still booting? If a pin is bent or broken then this obviously occurred when you removed the CPU whilst replacing the heat sink and fan!

If this is the case then unfortunately you will have to replace the damaged components, no other way around it I am afraid.

Good luck getting it sorted.

    • I'm not sure about that, but it at least "does" a version of 7.1 that this brand new card doesn't....

    • I can barely recall getting web results from a file search... I must've turned it off long ago. 26H2 is Insider's Preview build 26300.8697, which I am running, atm. It is not available for people running the standard commercial builds of Windows--only for the beta test Insider's group. But anyway, as mentioned in the thread, this feature has been around for a long time...
    • Speak for yourself. I saw it on Feedly, came here to read it, and did read it until the steps to activate. I skipped them to read the last paragraph. I knew it was probably not "the most requested feature", but knowing Neowin, I knew the article was going to talk about a feature nonetheless. I've seen Neowin in its best and worst.
