Elliot B.
I have just sold my iPhone 4 on eBay. I am going buy an iPhone 4S. Q. How do I go about preparing it for the 'customer'? Q. How do I go about preparing my backups so everything will move nicely across to the iPhone 4S in iTunes?
Roger H. Veteran Posted October 12, 2011 Veteran Share Posted October 12, 2011 Just do a backup then do a full install of whatever update, 4.3 or whatever and just don't restore anything.
Brandon H Supervisor Posted October 12, 2011 Supervisor Share Posted October 12, 2011 Q1: just do a standard reset on the iPhone 4, that should put it back to stock setting like when you first bought it before you set it up Q2: before you do the reset on the iPhone 4 connect it to iTunes and do the backup, that way when you connect the 4S to iTunes to set it up it will give you the option of restoring from that backup
Elliot B.
Should I de-authorise this iPhone in Tunes before I reset and ship it?
AJerman
Whoa, hang on now. If you do a simple restore to a new OS, it won't actually wipe the data. What you want to do is go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Contents and Settings. It will probably take a little while but it will securely wipe your device by deleting and overwriting everything. After that, go ahead and make sure it's updated to iOS 5 for the new customer. mattygdot
After that, go ahead and make sure it's updated to iOS 5 for the new customer. Bad idea if the ad specified what iOS the phone currently comes with. Keep the iOS as it is and send it, if the purchaser wants to upgrade so be it. Don't make that decision for them. Gaffney
Why are you upgrading ? The 4S is meant for people with 3GS or other phones, it's just a refresh of the iPhone 4. It's basically the exact same phone with a new sticker put on it. My sister said she wants a 4S and she just got her iPhone 4 a few months ago. The biggest change this year is iOS and you get that on your iPhone 4 so other than benchmark tests it's the same phone.

The 4S is absolutely not a simple refresh of the 4. The only similarity of the two is the enclosure. Everything else in the 4S is a huge upgrade from the 4. Joswin
There should be some exciting new stuff coming to take advantage of that Duel Core goodness. Fingers crossed :) Elliot B. 1 Share
