Best desktop e-mail client for Windows 7?

Hi all,

After using iMail and Sparrow on my girlfriend's Macbook, and even iCloud's online web interface, I'm after something a little nicer to view my Gmail messages in!

I've got absolutely loads of emails to sort through, so need something really simple to use, with an intuitive and simple interface... I've tried Windows Live Mail and it isn't brilliant (find it clunky/slow, considering it's a desktop app) and Thunderbird just feels really quite out-dated with a kinda ugly interface.

Any recommendations would be very much appreciated, thank you!

Windows Live Mail is enough for me, stable and with all needed features.

xKratosx just stick with gmail notifier and gmail in a browser. nothing on windows comes close to doing it as well as mail and sparrow on OSX do unfortunately.

I've tried Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail, PegasusMail, WIndows Mail - in the end, I prefer Outlook 2010

I am using a trial, but Hotmail folders do not load at all. Any advice? Cheers :)

I found they'd only load with the Windows Live Sign in assistant installed. I removed it with Soluto as it was adding 40 seconds to boot time and then found all my hotmail was non-functional. Take a look around and see if it's on your system or perhaps there but disabled from starting?

Inbox2 is absolutely useless for my needs unfortunately, if you delete something from there for example, it doesn't instantly push to Gmail's server, or indeed push to their server at all anyway that I could see...

So for example I can delete something from Windows Live Mail, and check eM client and see it dissapear just a couple of seconds later. No such luck in Inbox2... it seems to download all of the messages as if it was like POP only

I found while the skin of Inbox2 looked quite nice, the actual interface wasn't as useful as PostBox Express, and also the RAM usage was always at least 60MB, with some pretty high CPU usage at times (going up to 50%). An Email program really shouldn't be doing that.

Yes, it is based on Thunderbird, but it is far superior. I think they also just recently released version 3. More info here: http://www.postbox-inc.com/

+1 to windows live mail. i've setup 4 accounts including gmail one without a problem and also some rss feeds

Hello,

I've been using Qualcomm Eudora to handle my email accounts. While it's no longer being sold, it still works fine and I very much like the fact that it stores email messages in text format (some variant of .mbox), allows you to specify a separate directory for attachments to email (which are stored as files and not in a database) and has a very fast find feature. I also like it's message handling rules better than Microsoft Outlook.

At some point, I'm sure it will cease to work, but it's not having any problems and it works fine for me now, so I am continuing to use it.

Another vote for Postbox, unless you want Thunderbird or WLM for free.

Thunderbird 16 works good enough for me. I used to use Outlook 2010 but got tired of it.

I use outlook 2010 but I had to disable IMAP in my gmail preferences to make it usable for me.

for personal use i do not have any need for a desktop email application however, at work i use Outlook 2010.
