new laptop, weird things happening with it

Recommended Posts

so i have a brand new laptop, i know these issues are not defects, but there real strange.

first off it's a Lenovo thinkpad 570 running windows 7 home premium 64bit

i've got 2 issues,

issue 1,

there are dedicated function buttons above the keyboard for volume up/down/mute and thermal control and theater modes, the strange thing is that if i hover my finger over the buttons (close but not touching them) they detect my finger and it presses the button,

this is getting annoying because it keeps detecting my finger as i press the button before during and as i lift my finger off, so it on occasion gets pressed 2 or 3 times when i actually pressed it once.

Issue 2

the mouse pad has about a 1 second delay when i type. so if i press a button on the keyboard, the mouse trackpad and buttons will not work for 1 second.

the strange thing is that in the recovery console this issue is not present. only when windows has loaded.

These are most likely features that are specific to your thinkpad laptop rather than a general Windows feature. My suggestion is go Lenovo's website and do a tech support chat with customer service as they will know what software utilities are installed and can instruct you exaclty how to change those settings.

But off the top my head...

1. Looks like you have touch buttons for fcn keys instead of physical. You need to go through the start menu and find the Lenovo-branded utility that will allow you to change the settings for those hotkeys.

2. This is a common mechanism that prevents moving the mouse or making unwanted clicks while typing with your palm on the keypad. Search for the mouse settings in the Windows control panel.

what do you mean mouse pad? you mean touchpad? maybe the palm-proof settings are too sensitive, as Beta suggested. if there's a delay between the mouse and the notebook then it sounds like a USB controller issue. or you mean every time you type on the keyboard the mouse stops working?! that's a major issue to bring up with Lenovo, it's definitely a hardware fault. as for the over sensitive touch function keys, there may be settings for those too somewhere, but if i understand issue 2 correctly it's time to send this machine in for service/replacement.
