I've been trying to help a less knowledgeable user of hotmail get her account back after her password "stopped working" for whatever reason (it being 123456 probably had something to do with it).
I created a secondary address and used it to reset the password. It has worked! However, now I'm trying to add this address as an alternative address for the first, so that in case the account gets hacked again the password can be recovered more easily.
So I'm on the "Add an email address page", I select "Add your own email address", and type in the secondary address. Lo and behold, hotmail tells me the email address is already taken. What? I'm not trying to create it, just add it! I can successfully add another address outside of hotmail, it just happens that this secondary address is also on hotmail. So why does that work for certain addresses and not hotmail addresses? Or am I just being thick, or am I not doing the right thing at all?
Anyway thanks for the help!
