14,000 Posts (& a whole lot of indecisiveness)

Recommended Posts

Just happened to look over at my post count, and realized I have hit 14,000 posts today. This thread will actually make 14,003 if my math is correct.

I sat back and thought about this for a second, and it really is pretty remarkable, especially considering I am pretty much completely against the whole idea of any kind of social networks online. However for reasons both known and unknown, Neowin truly makes me not against the whole concept of being social online. At the end of the day I think that is a testament to the community itself, and finding a place that I feel as if I can just be myself, and share and talk about my interests without being judged.

I would like to say that over the years I have made a whole lot of various friends here on the site. Some of them have come and gone, and to those that have gone, for some of you it was actually a necessary evil. For some people, Neowin takes a hold of them, and while it is generally a positive experience for most people, there are those people in which it has a negative effec. They just get to caught up in things. So although the community is not the same without these people, I do feel they are better people overall for moving on with their lives. So if you happen to be reading this as a lurker or guest, I truly wish you all nothing but the best, and I hope things are going good for you.

I really hate to do so as I know I am going to forget a whole lot of people, but with that said a special thanks goes out to (in truly no particular order) the following members, some of which I actually know in real life, some of which I have become good friends with through the site, some of which I really do not know much at all but that I respect for the way they have conducted themselves over the years.

  • And a special recognition goes out to BudMan, because as he just recently found out, his help was directly responsible for making me decide to become an active member here.

Like I said, I know I am forgetting a decent amount of people. My apologies.

I also do need to recognize the fact that thanks to my (off and on) moderating position, I am sure I have made a few enemies along the way as well. I say with the utmost of sincerity that was never intentiona. I simply do not like knowing that some people just do not like me because of the fact I have had to moderate them, however that is part of the territory so to speak.

Additionally, as cliche as it may be, there are two people on staff I would like to specifically thank, and they are Neobond & Barney. Both have shown tremendous faith in me over the years, especially in the past year or two, although at times I am not sure I ever gave them all that much reason to do so because as the topic title states, there have been several occasions where I have been incredibly indecisive about wether or not I truly wanted to be on staff or not. But lo and behold, I always wind up coming back, and both Barney & Neobond have been very instrumental in not only letting me come back, but being supportive while doing so. At the end of the day it really comes down to the fact if i can give back to the community that has truly provided me so much over the years, well as corny as it sounds, I figure it is the least I could do.

So yeah, as much as people may say Neowin has changed over the years, the heart of things really have not. It is just the member base that changes, but it always seems to land in a place that is good for all involved.

Lastly, I would like to say to everyone, listen to the relaunch of the Gaming Podcast I am doing with John Callaham and Scorpus. We release a new episode every 2 weeks. :p

Very nicely written, indeed.

Congratulations from my part and I surely enjoy lots of what you contribute!

Me thinks you're definitely one of the people that make Neowin what it is.

Thank you for your contributions and here's to you!

14k is beefy and I'm looking forward to your next milestone! (Y)

And a perfect example is why i said I am not a fan of creating the member Thank You lists as I always miss people, as case in point both of you esaily could and should have been on it (EDIT - Added a few more people to my list :) ).

Thanks. Much appreciated for sure.

Thanks again everyone. (Y)

What is also pretty damn amazing/crazy, is especially the first few years I was a member, and I still have a habit of doing so as you can see by this thread, my posts tend to be very long. If I had to guess, probably upwards of 10 times larger than your average post. :| So in reality I should be at around 140,000 posts.

Truly thanks again, and sure enough a few people I forgot to add responded, that is why I truly hate doing the whole list thing, just thought it was about time.

Congrats, DL. I consider you to be a good friend. Over the years, you've had a profound and positive effect on me. I'm sure others can agree with me when I say that you've earned the respect of many around here. :)

That definitely means a lot to hear that, so it truly is appreciated. Many thanks. (Y) And the respect is indeed mutual.

Thanks for the mention, Larry. :)

As I said, I definitely did forget a decent amount of people the first go around, it is truly why I hate making the list of people, but felt it was needed this time around, as it had been quite a few years since I last did one. But it truly is near impossible to remember everyone.

Thanks Big Larry!

Anyone who has the "inside scoop" on Beetlejuice and Howard is indeed a friend of mine!

Thanks for all of the kind words. You are a true class act!

Thanks again everyone. (Y)
