Jak and Daxter Collection Review

Recommended Posts

As a gamer who likes to relive some of my favorite games, I find the HD collections to be an awesome way to get rewarded for nostalgia. And now Sony has released two of the three platforming hall of famers from the PS2. While I find myself more disappointed than I expected that games like Jak X, Daxter and even The Lost Frontier (ugh) aren?t included in the package, The Jak and Daxter Collection has reminded me why I fell in love with the series, and Naughty Dog as a developer.

i've never played the originals but played Daxter on PSP as well as The Lost Frontier. Both were really fun games. I'd like to play the this HD Collection - kinda wish theyd release it on the Vita though.

Same here, was hoping they might do something similar to what they did with Rayman Origins in releasing it on both. I'd like to pick this game up at some point, though with so much other stuff coming out soon it'll probably be a while before I get around to it.

Mine just arrived today. I can't wait to play through them all again in 3D on my new fancy TV

Just reading back on the games, i forgot how varied these games were. Although i believe Jak II one of my first game rages.

Naughty Dog need to stop making safe games and bring Jak and Daxter back! I'd even accept a Vita title.

What an informative review. :|

I hate IGN.

As for someone that's never played any Jax and Daxter games, how do the games really hold up? Do they feel as horribly dated as the Sly collection or are they on par with Ratchet and Clank?

Not at all. Jak and Daxter at the time really pushed the PS2. The cartoon graphics and voice acting is still brilliant. Sure you can tell it is a PS2 game. Gameplay wise you can't find a better 3D platformer, i'd go as far to say it is better than the Ratchet series. Plus the leap from Jak 1 to Jak II was brilliant, such a huge leap in graphics and gameplay.

I agree the IGN review was slightly biased considering how much he loved the originals.

    • This is about the already discredited 2025 announcement. Not the current one, which I've heard nothing negative about in the academic literature.
    • So, for $60 we got GTA 5 WITH online. Now for $80, we get a game missing areas (shops locked to the $100 version) and no online. Progress!
