Mafia 2 for

Recommended Posts

I played it on PC and the setting was great but the missions were a joke.

They all practically followed the same pattern: Sleep, wake up to get a phone call, drive to meet and pick someone up, drive some more, (big) gunfight, drive the person back, the end. Just felt like no creativity went into the gameplay.

And when you have completed there really is very little to do other than walk around and drive or start fights with pedestrians. There's extra mission packs to download but I was pretty bored of the game by the time I completed it as you do a lot of driving. One thing that really did irritate me was if you died or failed a mission, you had to do all the driving again.

Noticed PS Plus members can buy Mafia 2 for ?8 off of PSN, worth it? I really liked the first one, but the second got a lot of negative vibes.

The collectibles are super annoying. The game is very linear but it's fun and enjoyable. For that price, it's a steal. Note that if you buy the Platinum version, it has all the DLC for just 3 more ?.

Played it on 360 and I say go for it...

One of the few games (I have to admit) that I had no "problem" playing through.

It kind of played itself! :D

^in terms of how much I enjoyed it.

Plus ?2.03 shipping.

Getting the DLC is a plus, but having it on my hard drive and for ?8 seems the better deal - In case I don't enjoy it that much and never get around to the DLC.

The DLC is terrible, you would not miss much by not having that. Its basically a load of timed missions with a few lines of text as a story... nothing like the actual game.

That been said the actual game is fantastic, the story and cut scenes really get you immersed in the game. One of the best games I have played in a long time.

I LOVED Mafia II when I played it. It's got a brilliant story (if you like Mafia stories anyway), great atmosphere and some pretty fun gameplay. It's deceptively linear, but it's great to have an open-world, at least to look at. Probably not worth ?30 but if you like mafia stuff then it will be ?8 well spent.

What I probably like most about it is the flair of the 1950s...

Any other games that are set in the 1950s and of such quality (or better)?

Seasons would be bonus!

L.A Noire comes to mind. It's an amazing game and also has a complete edition with all the DLC.

Already own it, however, is it set in the '50s? (Haven't played it so far)

I thought it's in the '40s?

I'm almost certain that it starts out in the 40s - if I remember correctly, it spans quite a long time frame, into the 50s.

That'd be quite cool!

I'll definitely start playing it tonight, fellas! :)

Yeah you're correct, starts in the early/mid '40s and goes on into the '50s.

Excellent, thank you! Must play it.

Two questions:

1) How open is the game as in... Can I take my 30 minutes off and do whatever the flip I want?

Mafia 2/GTA style... (granted, M2 isn't as good there as GTA, but you get the idea)

2) If so, how much is possible? (Scale 0 to 10 (0: not possible; 10: GTA style))

I heard it's rather restrictive...

You can pretty much go off and do what you want whenever you want, as long as you're not on a mission. The problem is, there's almost nothing else to do. Just think of it as a linear game set in an open world - having an open world makes it much more immersive, but don't expect to actually do much else other than the main missions.

There are street crimes to solve but those are defined by which desk you're currently working. There are landmarks to see, reels to collect (very tricky because you get absolutely no clue to where they are) and cars to drive. But the good part is the cases. Free roaming is fun because the city is faithfully recreated but there isn't much to do.

the first game i replayed MANY times since it was new in Aug 2002 on PC.

the 2nd game (which i also played on PC) is not as good as the first but it's still much better than lots of other games out there. it has a moment in the game here and there but it does not live up to the greatness of the first game.

they beat the GTA series if you ask me as the general gameplay/atmosphere and characters are just more interesting than GTA series.

Bun-Bun and playXray pretty much said it, while you can certianly go off adventuring as much as you'd like there's really no benefit of doing so (other than to tour the city and enjoy the views). There are some collectibles around and street crimes as they mentioned that work as a quick break form the main story action but that's about it. There's no other side mission type stuff like you'd find in GTA for the most part and yeah keep in mind you can only do so many street crimes per desk. All the street crimes pop up on radar so they're easy enough to track down as well.

    • Glow 26.10 by Razvan Serea Glow provides detailed reporting on every hardware component in your computer, saving you valuable time typically spent searching for CPU, motherboard, RAM, graphics card, and other stats. With Glow, all the information is conveniently presented in one clean interface, allowing you to easily access and review the comprehensive hardware details of your system. Glow provides detailed information on various system aspects, including OS, motherboard, processor, memory, graphics card, storage, network, battery, drivers, and services. No installation needed. Just decompress the archive, launch the executable, and access computer-related information. Glow runs on Windows 11 and Windows 10 64-bit versions. Glow 26.10 changelog: New Features The bootstrapping algorithm has been completely redesigned. The software can now launch directly without requiring TS Preloader. As part of this change, the startup splash screen displayed during initialization has been removed. In addition, spikes in CPU usage have been eliminated, resulting in a more stable architecture with significantly lower memory consumption. The Microsoft Office detection infrastructure within the Operating System section has been enhanced. Additional detection support has been added for Office C2R (Click-to-Run) installations. Furthermore, the license status evaluation system has been improved, and the priority order has been revised as follows: Licensed > Grace Period > Other (NOTIFICATIONS, EVALUATION, etc.). Glow now includes preliminary support for Wi-Fi 8 technology, allowing more detailed information to be displayed for Wi-Fi 8-compatible network adapters. Glow now provides full support for Bluetooth 6.2. Adapters supporting Bluetooth 6.2 can be analyzed in greater detail and with improved accuracy. The disk distribution view in the Disk section has been modernized, replacing the traditional table layout with a new 2×2 card-based design. The TS Custom Controls module has been updated to v26.7. Thanks to the new custom controls, all Türkaysoft applications now offer a more modern and consistent user interface aligned with Windows 11 design standards. Bug Fixes Potential line-ending handling issues in the Office detection code within the Operating System section have been resolved. Additionally, the output format has been standardized to UTF-8 to prevent character encoding issues and ensure consistent data processing. Several stability and file management issues within the Debugging infrastructure have been addressed. Problems that prevented new log files from being created after Debugging was disabled, as well as issues causing debug records to be lost, have been fixed. File deletion and reaccess issues that occurred after file locks were released have also been resolved. In addition, a bug that caused newly recreated log files to remain locked after deletion has been eliminated. Unnecessary blank lines within debug logs and the extra empty line that could appear at the end of log files have also been corrected. A shortcut key conflict caused by assigning identical hotkeys to both the DNS Test Tool and the Donation page has been fixed. The DNS Test Tool can now be accessed using CTRL + Shift + D, while the Donation page is available via CTRL + Alt + D. Changes The service responsible for providing the Public IP Address and Internet Service Provider information in the Network section has been updated to use the ipinfo.io infrastructure. This change improves the accuracy and consistency of the displayed data. (No external requests are made while Hiding Mode is enabled.) Some terms in the Dutch and Korean language files have been updated to make them clearer and more user-friendly. [TS Updater] Before the update process begins, users are now prompted to choose whether they would like to view the release notes. Note: Always unzip the program before using it. Otherwise you may get an error. Download: Glow 26.10 | 1.8 MB (Open Source) Links: Glow Homepage | Screenshot | Github Get alerted to all of our Software updates on Twitter at @NeowinSoftware
