i was wondering if there is a jing like app that allows for screen capture with editing and maybe small movie creation like jing does to.. the part i dont like about jing is i cant upload to my own ftp server.. anyways ive gone through the freeware alternative list and there are so many(im testing them out right now) but none seem to have the video capture part of it.. so if any of you guys have a favorite app that does this kind of thing i would love to hear about it..

There's Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 whose latest SP1 version has unlimited screen capture and you can encode it to WMV free by trimming/editing or just share the capture in original format (viewers just need to install a Screen Capture codec). For encoding, it's a bit bloated and slow but great capture app.

so you want screen capture with built in send to ftp, faststone capture does this.

So you can take a screenshot, and then add notes, highlights, arrows, etc. etc.. And then send to ftp server you have setup.

it also does screen grabs (movies) but I don't think it has an autosend to ftp for that feature. But you could always just setup a folder you save to be sent to ftp.

Another option which might be better if your meaning to share these images with people would be just save your screengrabs/videos to dropbox.

thats close to what i need, but not quite there.. ive sent them an email asking for a howto or feature requests to be made..

"-ability to have the screen recording areas as hot keys
-ability to have to screen recordings uploaded to FTP
-ability to set the magnification of screen to equal to the area captured and not magnified at, especially the video capture..
-you have the ability to not be warned of a save after you are done editing your picture, but could we get the option to either upload to a specified default service(say ftp) after done editing, and also exit with no save prompt?"

Many ftp clients have the feature, or it could be a simple batch job you run on a schedule that uploads new files in a folder to your ftp. Or if you server has webdav you could use that as a folder to send your files to the server that users access via ftp.

You could setup rsync or unison to sync the files to your ftp server, etc. etc.

There is an FTP publishing plugin for Encoder but that would require re-encoding the screen capture. Also, it doesn't look like it works with newer Encoder versions. I haven't tested it myself.
