Minecraft creator reveals new game

Markus "Notch" Persson unveils 0x10c, a space game still in early development; monthly fee "likely".

Minecraft creator and Mojang cofounder Markus "Notch" Persson has announced he is working on a new game.

Launching the website 0x10c today, Persson's new project will be a space-oriented title. Like Minecraft, Persson expects to release the game early to "let players shape the game as it grows".

The game will be set in a parallel universe where the space travel is de rigueur for corporations and the rich, and the incorrect development of a deep sleep cell has rendered a number of the population asleep for longer than intended. Waking up in the future, the deep sleepers find a universe on the brink of extinction.

"The computer in the game is a fully functioning emulated 16 bit CPU that can be used to control your entire ship, or just to play games on while waiting for a large mining operation to finish," Persson said on the game's site.

"Each ship has a generator capable of producing a fixed wattage, and everything you connect to it drains wattage. A cloaking field, for example, might require almost all the power from the generator, forcing you to turn off all computers and dim all lights in order to successfully cloak."

According to the developer, the game will include space battles against AI and other players, as well as mining, trading, and looting. Additionally, the game will boast an advanced economy system, and single and multiplayer modes connected via the game's multiverse.

At the moment, the cost of the game is still undecided, but Persson says it's likely there will be a monthly fee for joining the game's multiverse due to the team's decision to "emulate all computers and physics even when players aren't logged in."

No release date for the game has yet been given.

I can see this being total ****. A game like Minecraft could have gone either way, he's super lucky it blew up like it did, but not likely it will happen twice. Still, good luck to him.

You'd be amazed how much following he actually gets, granted the next game could go either way. But it will start off with a huge chunk of fans already pure because it's Notch. Then wait for word of mouth to kick in.

I can see this being total ****.

Of course it will suck, it's not a carbon copy of modern warfare hence it cannot be good - coming up with new innovative ideas and game play is a complete no-no.

And people wonder why the gaming industry stagnates.

huh? whats that got to do with this game or thread - I never said anything about MW? You do realise there are more and more innovative games than ever nowdays due to the the huge surge in the indy market... the gaming industry is thriving...

wow, does every poster need to put the sarcasm tag after each post for you? I think he just means that the majority of sucessful games (sucessful does NOT equal good here) are just rehashes (ie, MW3) and the new innovative games are a failure ($$ wise).

    • Huh? I have an Aeron Remastered and the backrest cannot go up or down (only the lumbar is adjustable). Yes, the Doro C300 Pro V2's backrest can be locked, but the locking mechanism is so weak that when you recline and lean back the backrest moves with your body. I think the whole purpose of this chair is that all of the moving parts (except for the rocking, which can be locked in place) are supposed to move with your body, as you shift your weight, that's why I couldn't get used to it. Some people might like it though. Its redeeming factor is the price, I mean it costs like a quarter of what a new Herman MIller (Aeron) costs.
    • Well done Massie. This is how to treat the Fox News filth.
    • I notice how you dodged the questions I had about the racism shown by ignorant, gullible, cowardly people when the Poles, like your partner, were the immigrants. Ahem. I wonder how you'd feel if native born Brits suddenly treated you as "dirty crooked immigrant" for being half Trump-American? If they ordered you to leave and "go back to your corrupt country" (on the other side of the Atlantic), would you go? The truth is based on facts as supported by evidence. As requested in your previous posts, I have used the facts in your own post to show everyone the truth.
    • US citizens are paying to their government, who could use that to fund healthcare and tuition and relieve the costs of these for citizens instead of making tax breaks that overwhelmingly favor the rich. I'm not saying that tariffs are the correct solution, but what else would they be used for? What else could Trump have in mind for wanting them, if he hasn't figured out that labor costs are higher in the US?
