Raging Bull II is in the pipeline, it has been reported.

The sequel will apparently be based on the book Raging Bull II by Chris Anderson, Sharon McGehee and original inspiration Jake LaMotta.

Robert De Niro will not return in the sequel however, with the older version of LaMotta to be played by Boardwalk Empire actor William Forsythe, reports Moviehole.

The project will be directed by Martin Guigui, with a screenplay from Rustam Branaman. Casting is believed to be under way, with production expected to start in June.

Raging Bull II will reportedly serve as both a prequel and sequel, as it will chart the early years of LaMotta's life, while also revealing what happened in the days after Martin Scorsese's original film.

William Forsythe has previously played Al Capone in the sequel to Brian De Palma's The Untouchables, which was originally also played by De Niro. They also appeared together in Once Upon a Time in America.

De Niro couldn't have pulled it anyway. His health wouldn't have allowed it

Unless we want to see a Sylvester Stalone Rocky like comeback, and nobody wanted that!.
Would be interesting to see a brief cameo from De Niro mind.
