ZDNet is taking a rather apocalyptic view of Windows Phone, and Nokia in particular, in light of the Lumia 900 data cutoff bug.

They cite ComScore data that finds that Windows Phone market share has dropped for six consecutive months. It's suggesting Nokia will be in trouble since it's put all its eggs in the Microsoft basket, unlike HTC and Samsung, who are still primarily Android outfits.

Given that Apple didn't really take a hit from antennagate, and Nokia is handling this better than Apple did (accepting responsibility, offering $100 good will credit and a timeline to fix it rather than blaming the user), I doubt it'll have that effect. That's just link bait.

I seriously doubt that - if they can fix it in a few days, it won't even be an issue.

Do they take into account the loss in profits for HTC for the 2nd quarter in a row as well? I mean come on, they're losing market share as an OEM to, so how does that figure into this tired argument ComScore can't seem to get over?

And that bug has a fix coming in a few days, it also doesn't effect every 900 sold iirc, just a few though I haven't seen any solid numbers.

And even if your device wasn't affected, or you update it on the 16th...you still get $100 for free.

Keep in mind that Amazon was selling the phone for 1c and AT&T had their spring sale coupon thing so if you used those, well you just got paid to buy a phone lol.

Ugh. Those ComScore results are for Windows Mobile & Windows Phone combined. How do Zdnet STILL not get that?

Also, there reasoning that people will be put off by a bug that's fixed? (And those affected got a free $100 out of it?). Urgh blergh blergh.

WP7 will be fine, it will grow, especially with the Lumia collection released and the HTC Titan II, I own a Titan (I) and love it. I do not think this will put off customers, the bugs fixed and like others said, those affected got $100...

My HTC Windows Phone is ****, really. If I find myself with some available funds, I'm hopping onto the Lumina train before those offers expire.

This is a ridiculous article - as previously stated comscore is WM and WP. Also, WP started at 0% market, guess what, i bet it's higher than 0% now.

Also, if Nokia stuck with Symbian, they would have bled out slowly and eventually died...at least they are trying and doing something about it unlike RIM who is sitting idle and watching the company slowly fade.

The bug will only effect MS/Nokia if it takes a long time for them to fix it. Companies say fixes will be out in a few days, but sometimes a few days to them is a few months. And sometimes, the fix doesnt full address the issue or causes other issues. But I am willing to bet that a fix will be fairly quick since MS/Nokia cannot afford to let this go for to long.

A fix is available today - all you have to do is go to an AT&T store and ask for a replacement phone.

it's a non-issue, The few people i know with the phone haven't had the problem, and they're giving people $100 *and* a fix for it... i'd take any bug, short of not being able to make calls, for a week if i got a fix and a hundred bucks out of it!

And the response is unanimous. This is a non-issue.
