I recently reinstalled Windows 7 x64 and updated to IE9 via WU. But for some reason the icon in taskbar and when pinned to Start menu still is the IE8 one. Any idea how to fix it? I tried Googling as this seems like a simple thing to fix but surprisingly didn't get decent results.

You have to reboot for IE9 to complete being installed.

I did reboot. Multiple times. Also, it has the correct icon in start menu under All Programs. It only shows the old one when in taskbar and when pinned to start menu.

Did you try unpinning it and pinning it back?

I have had this a couple of times, I uninstalled it through Control Panel then downloaded it from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie and installed it again.

Solved it. Uninstalled IE9 another time, reinstalled. Still had IE8 icon. Rebuilt icon cache - now it has the correct one.

Glad you got it fixed, I was just gonna come back to say that you should rebuild the icon cache lol.

This would kind of annoy me too TBH! Although I have not seen this issue personally before...

Glad you fixed it up :)

Not really. If installation couldn't even get the icon right, who knows what else might be wrong. Fortunately, nothing was actually wrong this time. :) .
