Players will take control of Prophet in Crysis 3 as they return to an infected New York to fight the corrupt Cell Corporation, Electronic Arts confirmed this morning.

This morning's official announcement confirms last week's Crysis 3 rumor.

Following the events of Crysis 2, the New York of 2047 has become encased in a Nanodome. The New York City Liberty Dome is a urban rainforest teeming with overgrown trees, dense swamplands and raging rivers. The Liberty Dome is divided into seven distinct and treacherous environments known as the Seven Wonders.

Prophet, armed with a composite bow and his enhanced Nanosuit, is on a revenge mission after uncovering the truth behind Cell Corporation's motives for building the quarantined Nanodomes, according to the press release. The citizens were told that the giant citywide structures were resurrected to protect the population and to cleanse these metropolises of the remnants of Ceph forces. In reality, the Nanodomes are CELL's covert attempt at a land and technology grab in their quest for global domination.

Prophet seems to kill himself early on in Crysis 2, though players later discover that Prophet's consciousness seems to be a part of the Nanosuit.

"Crysis 3 is a thrilling mix of sandbox gameplay, advanced combat and hi-tech human and alien weaponry that shooter fans will love," Cevat Yerli, Chief Executive Officer of Crytek, said in a prepared statement. "Leveraging the latest CryENGINE technology, we're able to deliver seven unique themes that offer stunning and visually loaded gameplay experiences. We cannot wait until people get their hands on the game."

People who pre-order the $59.99 game, due out spring 2013 for the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, will get a special Hunter Edition, according to the press release. The Hunter Edition of the game gives players early access to the new signature bow and its attachments in multiplayer, plus the Hunter Nanosuit module which adds additional power and functionality to the super-suit. Gamers who pre-order now will also have a head start when playing online with a bonus XP boost up to level 5, a unique bow skin and three exclusive dog tags.

Some retailers are also offering bonus pre-order unlocks on top of what you get with the Hunter Edition, according to the press release:

This powerful, close-range shotgun comes with a unique silencer attachment, custom weapon skin and two exclusive themed in-game dog tags.

Spewing 500 rounds a second, the Typhoon gives players the ability to go guns blazing to take back the Liberty Dome. Also included are two exclusive Overkill themed in-game dog tags.

With an extremely fast rate of fire and a 60 round magazine the Feline is highly effective and deadly, at short range.

Me too. I hope it turns out to be as bad on hardware as the original one was

Umm, why would you "want" a game to run like absolute dog crap? I truly believe that the original Crysis ran the way it did, not because of how hard it pushed the hardware, but because of how poorly it may have been written (partially due to the DX10 implementation). When current systems (talking about the Radeon 7900/GTX 680 series) can still barely run a 4 1/2yr old game acceptably at 1920x1080/1200, it's no longer about "this game pushes hardware hard", it's more about "this is a very poorly optimized game/engine".

If it weren't for that game, we would've still stuck with 4870x2 and 295. :p

And I wouldn't say poorly optimized. At all

We have Metro 2033, Battlefield 3, Skyrim. Metro 2033 arguably pushes hardware harder than any of the others in the list. This is also why console gaming is where it is now. I don't enjoy spending $500-600 on a video card just to get a few more fps so the game runs well.

The days of having to spend $500 to $600 on a video card are over. Now, you'd be getting dual video cards with that kind of money. Pushing the hardware isn't always a good thing as evidenced by the original Crysis. Crytek has done a great job at optimizing CryENGINE 3 and they're still updating it with PC-specific features. I'm confident that Crysis 3 will look great and that the PC version will look significantly better than the console versions.

Enjoyed Crysis and Warhead but didn't really rate Crysis 2 they made it feel so 'console' and linear a massive step down from the original game where you had almost like a sandbox to play in.

Won't be bothering with this game, they are making it like urban Rambo with the silly bow and arrows.

Finished all 3 of them so far, will be giving this a play. But as others have pointed out my only concern is that I want to at least feel as tho Im in a Sandbox and can deviate from set mission and just go killing or exploring. Not this tight street/corridor winder that we saw in Crysis 2. The setting was imba but they failed on having mutiple routes or a sense of an "open" city.

This should be interesting. Not warming up to the idea that we are playing Prophet though.. We know he died in Crysis 2, even if some of his consciousness somehow was binded to the Nanosuit.. Getting a little farfetched.

    • It's about to become harder to turn off your Samsung TV, thanks to Instagram by Aditya Tiwari Meta announced that its Instagram for TV app has arrived on Samsung TVs in the US as part of its latest expansion, giving users one more way to scroll through Reels. The social media giant often comes under scrutiny for the "addictiveness" of its features, which leads people to spend excessive time on the platform. Interestingly, Instagram boss Adam Mosseri described spending 16 hours on the platform as "problematic use" but not "clinical addiction." Mosseri also compared scrolling on Instagram to binge-watching a show on Netflix. Instagram for TV is now available on Samsung TV models released in 2020 or later. The app is already available on Amazon Fire TV and Google TV in the US, which together account for the majority of connected TV devices. The company said it will test several new features to improve the living room and family experience while using Instagram on the big screen. Watching vertical videos on a big screen isn't something many would be excited about. Probably that's why Meta is testing a dedicated home for horizontal videos. Creators will get the opportunity to design content for TV screens and get more ways to reach audiences, according to Meta. If you found an interesting Reel while doomscrolling on your phone, you'll be able to cast it to your TV. The feature is available for testing on Instagram for TV on Google TV and Amazon Fire TV, and it will also support videos from the Saved tab. Instagram for TV will be testing Channels organized around user interests, across genres such as comedy and sports, as well as content from favorite creators. Moreover, you can watch Stories on your TV. While Instagram is known for short-form videos, it's knocking on more doors to keep the audience hooked. The company said it's exploring new content formats for the big screen, including long-form creator content to cover topics in detail, episodic series to build suspense across multiple episodes, and creator live sessions on TV. All of the new updates put Instagram in competition with established giants like YouTube (and Netflix), which already have a robust presence on the big screen. In recent updates, Instagram added the ability to write an individual caption for each carousel image, manually re-order posts, and a paid version of the app.
    • I know RAM and storage prices are high right now, but I think it would have been better to have 1TB as the base level storage, especially as it's supposed to be for gaming. Plus a 2.5gbe ethernet port rather than only 1gbe.
    • I have installed the debloated version of Windows 11 25H2 Pro. I obtained the apps from store.rg-adguard.net. The size of the Photos app window is quite problematic for me; it consistently displays in a 16:9 aspect ratio, resembling a movie theatre screen, and cant remeber its last size and position. The Snipping Tool cannot capture the taskbar. When I select "Window" in capture mode, it allows me to capture menus or individual windows, but I am unable to capture just the taskbar. This functionality was available in version 24! I am on the same version numbers (latesst).
    • I'm already seeing my steam library, still swallowing the 16 Gb of RAM, then looking at the SD storage expansion and saying "what?".
