Hey All,

Im trying to find a decent Web Design Program for a beginner, this is for a friend of mine who wants to try and make himself a website for his small business.

I have suggested Serif's Web Plus as it comes with pre-installed templates. I dont believe he needs anything like Dreamweaver as thats expensive and abit to advance for him. I also reckon HTML is enough.

Could someone suggest anything else?

Cheers!

x

Try the Notepad++ which is free or Coffeecup HTML Editor (retail version)

If he knows HTML backend... Notepad is best for writing in HTML...

Unless he wants to do visual design such as drag and drop or whatever, Coffeecup HTML Editor is best for him... Which Dreamweaver is more powerful than the rest.... Coffeecup is cheaper ... I think about $50 dollars for retail... there is trial version if he wants to try it out for 30 days or whatever they provide in demo version. The site is http://coffeecup.com

Of course there are so many HTML Editors on the internet ... no matter it's free or not.

I totally hate to say it, but wordpress [free] + Template [free or purchased] = best value for a nice looking site. Updates can be done via wordpress CMS which is simple, especially if he was planning on coding the site by himself.

This is *exactly* what I thought up until about 12 months ago... I'd seen it a few years ago, and it was literally a blogging tool. However nowadays it's an absolutely great bit of software for building full websites. You should really check it out!

Notepad++ is a great tool! I agree, but for some reason it messes with the layout of my code when I go to view it elsewhere. I am not sure if it is different formatting or what.

Sublime Text 2 eats Notepad++ for breakfast.

I agree, Sublime Text 2 is awesome. I find it a lot better than Notepad ++. It's for Windows, Mac, Linux, uses little memory, works great :)
