MSI netbook w/ Win XP upgrade to which Win 7 version?

At work we have a MSI U123 netbook (1 GB RAM) with Windows XP installed.

I would like to upgrade this thing to Windows 7.

Which version can I use better? The Starter edition or just the Home Premium?

I was gonna say go for the Home edition, but I'm not sure the U123 supports HW acceleration in Windows 7 with the older Intel chipset it features. I've tried both versions on my netbook (different brand), and while both run satisfactory the Starter Edition was actually more sluggish than Home due to the lack of aero.

Windows 7 Starter was specifically designed for low-powered machines such as netbooks.

I guess Starter edition it somewhat 'lighter' and less demanding on the CPU etc, since Aero and all have not been enabled/removed from this edition?

Theres a "Thin PC 7" from M$ available for legacy machines, I tried it on the old P4 here(512Mb ram only) and it was gawdawfully slow,

So I am running a modded W7 lite by I.K. and its still sluggish, :)

Wait for Win8 it will run better and faster on your netbook

@bogas04, thx for the post. I have a Technet subscription, so I can always upgrade to Win 8 (Starter)
