Reluctant to play Mass Effect 3

Recommended Posts

I fell in love with the series. I thought it couldn't get any better with the first one and then the sequal just takes it to a whole new level. I know its public perception that the 3rd in controversial however will it ruin what the first and second have built so far?

I don't think it will. The ending isn't the best (but it's not as bad as people make it out to be), but the game itself is very, very good. I loved it from start to finish, and don't for a second regret buying it.

If you're really that worried about the ending, just stop playing when you're in the citadel and Shepherd gets on a weird floating platform. :)

I thought it was really good. The sense of nostalgia when old characters or places come back around is something I've never experienced in a game before. You could always wait for the free DLC coming which expands on the game ending if you are that worried.

My only complaint is being coerced into multi player to gain single player benefit but that might be seen as a positive for some.

the more you get envolved in the game the more you feel the ending seems out of place ( for lack of a harsher word )

However everything else leading up to the ending is an absolute rollercoaster ride of epicness :D and i dare say the MP is not so bad ( tho i have to agree with Rapture on the coerced part)

I have the collectors ed. (not happy with the lithograph) but the game is top notch. Sure the ending could have been a bit better and there are a few loose ends here and there. BUT never regret buying it ... well worth the price for content ...

hell Garrus and the big guy or Garrus and Joker telling jokes won me over ... at that point in time I would have given 500$ for Bioware to write more content ...

and Liara ... oh man, if Liara exists I would .... I would do a lot of things to that woman ... even if she were a Ardat Yackshi ... well worth the price ...

damn it I am at work .... **** work ...

I stopped playing before finding out about the ending.

The endless Battle, inch forward, Battle was wearing me thin on me quickly (Earth -> Mars) at the beginning the game.

Did not like the indication on battle ME3 was quickly taking.

When I tried multiple player and the constant kicking out because I was lvl 1just starting for the 1st time jaded me to multi-player to the point of why bother.

What actually happens in the ending didn't bother me. The "A,B,C" ending did bother me, lack of any closure of other character, and plot inconsistently at the ending.

For a carefully crafted story that build up over the past two games. ME3 ending seems poorly written, ending has plot holes / inconsistent and feels likes slapped on.

I loved and spent hundred of hours on the previous two, but I will leave it at that.

If you've played the previous games, you'll love part 3. Nothing has really changed in the gameplay, but I get into the people and the stories, and there's lots of that. Personally I found myself getting upset when Shephard got upset; getting mad and feeling what he felt. I haven't finished the game yet, but so far it has really really drawn me in and made me feel like this whole experience is really happening. It's kind of a shock when I take off my surround sound headphones and turn on the lights, because I feel like I'm coming down from an adrenaline rush.

It's only the last 15 minutes out of a 20 hour game people have complained about, you'll love it, I'm sure :)

I hated the ending. And yes it is as bad as people are saying.

However, the game as a whole is great. 99% of the single player campaign is totally worth the admission price. The co-op multiplayer was surprisingly fun. I still play it often with my brother and a few friends. It's a lot of fun. If you loved the first 2 games, you should play 3. It's great, for the most part.

I bought Mass Effect 3 on ahunch. I completed it.

The following day, I bought Mass Effect 2 because ME3 was that good and I wanted some more.

I am currently replaying ME3 with the ME2 save and I see all the differences and impacts the ME2 story does to ME3.

It is a great game with an excellent story, graphics, voice acting.

The ending may be strange but the more I enjoy the game, the more it is a non-issue to me.

Haven't played 3 yet. All I hear is people complaining about the ending so I decided to wait until the extended ending DLC is released. Hopefully that way I can have an untainted Mass Effect experience.

Of course, doing that means you may not know what the original ending was. What if the "fixed" ending is worse?

If you are not playing ME3, you are making a huge mistake. Seriously.

All being said about the ending, leave it aside. Just play the game and you'll know for yourself, why it is one of the best, and how well it matched the charisma and the heights of the series

You shouldn't miss it. At any cost

This. The game is outstanding right up until the last 10 minutes.

If you played it 1->3 I think you would find that different. You get attached to the characters/story/etc so the ending is a real kick in the guts..

I wasn't angry about the ending. I just felt.. empty :|

The ending was brilliant. I was disappointed at first but if you join the dots with the ME2 DLC Arrival with the ending of ME3....you'll understand all about the indoctrination theory and Shepard.

The ending made much more sense, after you see how it all works

Except that this is PURELY a user contrived explanation of the ending. While I hope and pray that this is the way they decide to play it, this isn't lore :(

I truly truly TRULY hope it is. I was gutted at the end..

TL;DR

Play it. I got TONS of enjoyment out of it. As a couple of people have said, it's an outstanding game right up until the end.

The only thing I suggest is once you have finished it, go look up the "Indoctrination Theory" on the Mass Effect forums.. It's a must read post-game.

There are too many holes in that theory for it to be realistic.

To me, the writing got progressively worse from 1 to 3, to the extent where 3 had me cringing. I'm not sure if it's just a general disillusion with Bioware who have annoyed me since the OTT American accents in Jade Empire with no effort to fit the voice acting in with the Oriental theme of the rest of the game.

I thought ME1 may have been a turning point, maybe it was just that some of the alien races weren't blatantly brash American however 2 and 3 slipped back into the old habits of cheesy teenager dialogue that alienates me as a 36 year old Englishman after 10 minutes or so.

And I'm sorry, but Jennifer Hepler has been trying to turn ME into Twilight for a while now.
