Reluctant to play Mass Effect 3

Recommended Posts

OP, the third makes the first and second look silly, it's an amazing game, well thought out, superbly written and acted. and the action is great. don't hesitate. the ending could have been more logical and complete seeing as this is The Conclusion and all that, but that doesn't detract from the amazing game. the MP alone is worth it.

Well I finished Mass Effect 3 last night, it honestly had the best video game ending in history.

I was just in awe how it all had happened, because it was just very forth coming about the consequences. It didn't make excepts not even for Shepard who had sacrificied so much, it reflected how reality really would turn out if such circumstances were in play.

Thinking of doing this, or at very least waiting for the 'real ending' DLC.

You'll be waiting a very long time then, there is no "real ending" DLC. BioWare are NOT (nor should they) changing the end(s). They are merely clarifying it more with extended cutscenes, to better flesh out what actually happened. There is no need to wait for it, it'll be the same as it is now but hopefully with the DLC it'll make alot more sense.

The story in ME3 is much weaker than in first two games while gameplay is more or less unchanged. Entire game has the feel of "cut corners" and IMHO ruins the trilogy. Endgame is a joke and the last character in the game is so shallow and so deprived of history, origins.....it really hurts the game badly. Wait for the "fixed" version...but somehow I don't think it will do anything for the game since the story simply craped out in the last installment.

couldn't disagree with you more Yogurth, but that's OK, to each his own! this was by far the meatiest and most well-written of the three in terms of story, i loved both previous entries, but this one made them look quite tame. and i certainly didn't feel they cut any corners, this is a huge package, like i said before, just the MP is worth the investment.

Man, people in this thread are really giving the ending too much credit. The game is fantastic, but the ending is terrible. The more I think about how it contradicts so many things in the first two games, the worse the ending looks. I would still recommend playing the game, because the game itself is mostly great. Just brace yourself for a lousy ending.

Major Spoilers:

It doesn't matter what choices you make in the ending, the outcome is basically the same. With the whole series revolving around the choices you make, that really sucks.

The whole thing about the mass effect relays all self destructing? Previously in the series when a relay exploded it wiped out the whole system it was in.

And on top of that, the relays are destroyed no matter what, so Earth is ****ed even if you save it. The whole planet is decimated, how the hell are they supposed to rebuild without getting supplies from other systems?

And then as soon as the ending is "over" and you're back at the title screen, a message pops up telling you to buy DLC. It's a huge slap in the face.

Don't be dissuaded from playing ME3. It's a damn fun game though as some have already mentioned, the ending feels a bit incomplete (an extended cut DLC will drop this summer to fill in the gaps). If you buy the N7 Collector's edition you'll get the From Ashes DLC which introduces a bad-assed Prothean sqaudmate.

Um, the choice you make does matter. Considering in two of the three choices Shepard dies and in one the Reapers and ALL SYNTHETIC LIFE are destroyed. I don't see how that is "not mattering". I still feel the ending was more about making the choice than the results of the choice. Making the last choice in ME3 was the most difficult thing in the game, at least for me.

I wouldn't play it myself until they release the extended DLC. Otherwise there is a high chance you will see the ending and feel quite jaded, I know I did. Developers don't release a 'new' or extended ending without reason...
