Game Boredom

Recommended Posts

I am in the same position with you, the only game I play right now is Skyrim, but that's after a long break because I got bored:

slightly off topic but what are the main bugs that make it "buggy as hell" I don't like console gaming anymore so for PC the only bug I have come across is the esbern one, but the fix was easy and it's all good now.

Bethesda has an amazing creative team but a lacking technical team. I also think they need too spend more money hiring a decent technical team. Instead of wasting money on blood sucking lawyers.

depends on the game, Kingdom of Amalur only took a few hours to get bored with whereas i am more than 100 hours into Skyrim and still love it. Loved all the Final Fantasy games except for a few and i only got a few hours into those as well.

I'm having difficulty learning new complex games like RPGs or strategy games. I'm a programmer so I figure **** out for a living, when I get to play I don't want to be figuring **** out, I want to be having fun.

Learning new things and new ways of thinking improves the brain and consequently your problem solving skills.

So the only complex games I play are those I learned back when I was utterly fascinated with games, i.e. 10 years ago. I can still get sucked into a game of Settlers 2 for hours, but I don't want to learn how to play the latest installment in the series. I feel kinda bad about not having learned how to play Civ 4 or 5, or The Witcher 2, but my brain won't let me.

You're really missing out, Civ5 is a great game. So are games like Skyrim, Crysis 2, Sins, etc.

I don't think games are dumbed down in general (a lot of games back then were very dumb), I think we just no longer put enough value in learning how to play them to justify the effort. For whatever personal reason, everyone is different.

Most games are getting more complex if anything in my opinion.

Off topic I know, but what is with Bethesda? Fallout 3 was buggy as hell... New Vegas was buggy as hell... Skyrim seems to be buggy as hell... Why can't they lower the crash bugs in years of development? :|

They do release updates you know. With the latest updates Skyrim is pretty stable and bug free.

Learning new things and new ways of thinking improves the brain and consequently your problem solving skills.

I know, but as I said, learning new things and ways of thinking is my day job. When I get to sit down and play, my "system-learning" quota is filled for the day.
