Hi Guys!

My birthday is tomorrow, turning 25 :cry: . Good news is my parents are giving me $1000 ontop of my $1200 to buy a new computer so total is $2200. I've spec'd out a system, the only thing is I'm not sure about the motherboard :/ :

CPU = http://www.ncix.com/...nufacture=Intel

RAM = http://www.ncix.com/...ll&promoid=1058

Case = http://www.ncix.com/...cture=LIAN%2DLI

PSU = http://www.ncix.com/...FX&promoid=1058

CPU Heatsink = http://www.ncix.com/...ure=Thermaltake

Video Card = http://www.ncix.com/...anufacture=ASUS

HDD = http://www.ncix.com/...facture=Hitachi

Motherboard = http://www.ncix.com/...rs&promoid=1205

I don't know if this is the best motherboard out there right now. What do you think? Any tips or advice? Please use the same site: http://www.ncix.com

Thank you!

PS: This system is to replace my Core 2 Quad system.

Seems pretty cool to me, same Mobo I'm getting soon with the same CPU.

Do you really need 32GB, I think 16GB will do more than enough to be honest - I belive the motherbaord can handle 1866mhz RAM, why not get some of them?

Only thing I'd change is the HDD, but I do have loyalty to Western Digital and seen one fail out of thousands for me.

Happy Birthday

Thanks Dan! Feel old already! I agree 32 GB is overkill but for that sale price why not? The hard drive was really just a after thought I have about 4 160 GB at home unused. I'm hoping someone else can give me a good alternate for the motherboard the price tag just seems wrong for a motherboard like that. I was expecting to spend at least 400$ on just the motherboard but Gigabyte is even worse with their 168$ mobos. I'm curious as to why the LGA2011 motherboards are more expensive than the Z77.

I'd recommend replacing the CPU Cooler with a Corsair Hydro model, I have one and it's excellent.

Also get an SSD as the operating system drive, then spinning disks for storage.

As for the PSU, that's massive overkill unless you're planning on using SLI. A 700-800W should suit your needs.

32GB of RAM is far too much, even 16GB is too much.

Just because you have access to all that money, doesn't you you have to blow it all on a computer that'll be outdated in a couple of years.

32 gigs of ram is overkill, 16 will be enough.

i agree with Daedroth, change the cpu cooler, i have one of those installed and it's really good.

also go with an ssd for the O.S and put a couple of spinning disks for storage.

and with these options you can save up some money for future upgrades

The LGA2011 motherboards are more expensive because routing the additional pins requires more PCB layers and adds cost.

As for your build, I'd recommend spending a but less on the PSU (1250W would only be needed if you had something like triple SLI, a massive OC and a RAID array and even then I'm not sure) and maybe on the case and getting an SSD. Otherwise it looks pretty good. I hope you have a nice monitor to go along with that rig.

    • I need to understand the rationale of not shipping all of these K2 improvements in a single update/release. It's giving "we will fix Windows 11 but no commitments". It seems to me that they just announce these improvements just to appease the community.
    • The term "RTM" is long gone starting with Windows 10. Every current release is a GA build. This is the result of MS making Windows as a Service (WaaS).
