Modern Warfare 3 Disk Issue

OK A couple of days ago I took my Modern Warfare 3 disk out of my Xbox because It stopped playing and it had a massive scratch going all the way round the disk and It will only play for 2 minutes before I get a read error, The Xbox 360 still recognizes that it is Modern Warfare 3 in there, So I was wondering Could I borrow my friends Modern Warfare 3 disk, Install it to my Xbox 360's hard drive and then play the game off the hard drive with my scratched up disk as it is no longer playing off the disk itself but the hard drive instead and I believe all I need is to have the Disk in the drive and the Xbox 360 to recognize it as Modern Warfare 3 to be able to play if off the hard drive right?

I do not see why not, as long as you own the game previously.
