Hi there guys :D, sorry for my english
Currently I have this rig: i7 930 - 6gb 1600mhz - HD5870 - 1TB HDD - 2TB HDD - CM Real Power Pro 650w - Rampage II Extreme - Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - LG Bluray Burner
I don't know which upgrade path should I go: i7 3930K + 16GB RAM + ASUS P9X79 Deluxe or i7 3770K + 16 GB RAM + ASUS P8Z77-V Deluxe or wait for the next gen.
The idea was to upgrade my pc and give the old to my parents. I use the pc for gaming, photoshop, a little of premiere pro, programming, etc. I would keep the HD5870, I have an old 8800GT that would be enough for my parents needs.
Thanks in advance :)

do your parents really need all that power in a computer??

all you need to do is put in a better graphics card if your using it for gameing, 16GB of RAM is overkill,

you could make a less powerful rig for your parents if they dont need that much processing power, and it will save you a lot of money.

you do not need this upgrade, wait a couple years more and then build a new one. that's the logic now, since costs are lower and increments in terms of performance are more gradual than lets say ten years ago. i mean if you were talking just extra RAM or just a new GPU then ok, but you're looking at ripping the board and CPU out, and i don't think it's worth the cost and hassle in this case.

EDIT: i was just talked OUT OF buying a new graphics card today by sales rep at a major online retailer since she thought my 6870 going to a 7870 would show almost no difference, and if i did upgrade it would be a waste of money.

Yeah maybe upgrade when the next gen comes out (after ivy bridge) but what you have ATM is fine...
SSD is your best bet for an upgrade ....and a fresh reinstall.
Could also upgrade RAM to 8/12GB, 16 as mentioned is a bit overkill.

12GB on your home pc? What the hell do you do? I've got 8GB on my server running 3 VMs and that's plenty :s
