So I went to the optician the other week for my regular check-up. They for the first time prescribed me some glasses, dubbing them "strain relief glasses".

Now, I don't really have any problems with my eyesight, I can see stuff close and far away, and to be honest, I can see just as well with them on, or off without having to squint or anything like that.

Problem is, when I DO wear them, I have this weird feeling at the back of my eyes, like it's actually causing some kind of strain, it makes my eyes feel sort of tired.

Not having glasses before, I wondered if this is normal? One of my friends said it could take weeks for this feeling to go away but if they're strain relieving glasses, surely they shouldn't cause any problems?!

BTW, I didn't even think there were any issues before I was told I should have these, no headaches or anything so what do you think? They sort of feel pointless to me.

I used to get a weird tingly feeling due to the bridge resting on my nasal. Most sunglasses can do this to me. Maybe you're getting this? You get used to it eventually.

If you think they're pointless, don't bother with 'em. If you can see fine, and don't need them for driving or reading then what's the point? If you feel that wearing the glasses doesn't change the image you see then what's the point? For me, when I first put my glasses on everything was immediately clear and sharp.

What's your prescription? I'm like -2 or something.

Something like -0.50 +0.25. It's the same result I had a couple of years ago at a different optitian and they said I'd be fine without glasses :s

They said I overall have fine eyesight, a problem could occur when my brain tries to primarily use the signal from my stronger right eye and attempt to ignore the left more so.

The ache isn't so much exterior but more from behind my eyes internally.

When the guy was testing different lenses on my eyes with the strange spectacle contraption, he handed me a piece of paper to read with some fine print at the bottom. I read it fine with the lenses in, but just out of interest, I pulled them up for a second to see how it looked without them and I could read it just as well, no squinting or anything. Still he said I should have them.

Just the week I'd gone to the optician, I'd been having some neck/head pains, turns out in the end it was my crappy pillows causing (as advised by an osteopath) it but I'd mentioned it to the optician so I imagine that's why he was so adamant that I needed the glasses.

Kinda feel cheated out of my ?85. Also, they look TERRIBLE on me, I never have been able to find any glasses which suit me.

If you're eyesight is unbalanced then one of your eyes will strain more doing activity (even if you think you can see fine), over time it means that one eye works harder and wears out quicker, and the other eye could become lazy - basically the problem gets worse and worse with time.

Whilst it may have little to no impact on current vision, the intent is to relieve the strain and prolong your 'good-ish' vision.
