what's the difference between backlit and edge lit LED

OK I am looking at getting a new TV. Samsung for sure, and as of right now my 2 choices are either a

Samsung UN46EH6000 or a UN46ES6100

The main difference I am seeing, besides the Smart TV which I have an Xbox360 so I really do not need it, is one is Edge Lit and 1 is Backlit.. What is the difference? The cheaper TV is backlit and the more expensive one is Edge lit.

Which do I want?

I have a edgelit vs backlit and i wish it was backlit... basically backlit have even brightness on the back of the panel... edge lit the LEDs are on all four corners... when I am watching movies in a dark room it looks like I have flashlights in the corners from the edge lighting

Is the backlit one classified as a full array backlit panel? They should have local dimming and therefore create a much better contrast ratio. Whiter whites and blacker blacks.

Ah just found a review... it's essentially a cheaper version of a full-array backlit panel without any local dimming, so it's a bit meh. Not sure which one I'd choose. The contrast *MAY* be better on the edge-lit.

yeah see looking around and reading different sites I am getting mixed signals. I mean they are all saying that both of them are fantastic TV's, but nothing is comparing the 2 together.
