I have a single shot Thompson Center Contender pistol and a Marlin lever action carbine chambered in the 45-70 Govt. round for hunting, but considering there are now revolvers that are chambered for this round....

It could easily be - several makers are coming out with them, and the ballistics from my Contender are very close to those numbers.
