[win7] USB Bluetooth adapter power management issue

Recommended Posts

I've recently bought a cheap/unbranded USB Bluetooth adapter to use with Skype. It works fine for about 30 mins but then my headset goes silent (I'm not moving the mouse or touching the keyboard at all during this time). I then have to pull the adapter out and reinsert it.

I was thinking that it could be a power management problem and did some searching via Google. The solution I found says to go into Device Manager, double click the device, go to the power management tab and then deselect a box. However, the power management tab is missing entirely for me. I've also tried changing stuff in power management under Control Panel (such as turning off power saving for USB ports), but it didn't help.

Can anyone here help with this issue please? I'm using Win7 x64 on a laptop and am using the "Generic Bluetooth Radio" driver. I'm also using an account with adminstrator rights. There is the possibility the USB bluetooth device could be faulty too, but I think it's worth looking at power saving software settings first.
