I'm working with an XP Service Pack 3 computer at work that's trying to install the same update over and over even after being shut off and turned back on. It actually shows as successfully installs but then it goes through the process of installing it again.

The update is:

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update for .NET versions 2.0 through 3.5 (KB951847) x86

Thanks in advanced for helpful answer.

I would download the file and run it manually and see what you get.

to through out a generic solution; have you tried system restore? I think all updates create a restore point before they start, so if you just went and restored to right before you did the first update and then installed it manually as notta suggests it could help

Downloading and installing them does not seem to fix the issue either. I downloaded them then ublocked them... still it keeps trying to download them.

I had exactly the same trouble on my computer. I even went to the Microsoft Update Site and downloaded the three updates there. I didn't work...sure the computer said it did.....but it didn't. So I decided to wait !!!
I waited until it was time to switch off my computer for the night and lo and behold up come the updates yet again installing when the computer was "Shutting Down".
Well the next day I crossed my finger and Lo and behold everything was alright.
I hope that doesn't happen again as it was really getting to me having the "shield Icon" there and doing anything about it, I must hae tried at least four times before I have up and waited until my night "shut down".
